Ell, as I was reading that quote I was thinking, yes, but radium killed her. She was a fascinating woman who was clearly ahead of her time pursuing a career in science decades & decades before that would become the norm (if indeed it is today) for a woman.

She wrote one of my favorite books...My Brilliant Career. Anyone who enjoys fiction,especially about strong women,would like this one. Saying it's a sign of your worth if certain people hate you isn't the way I look at life but this quote makes sense to me in the context that she was quite a feminist and to be that in the 1800s was not easy,and we all know what she and others back then had to endure. Imprisonment in some cases.

Fresh Fruit Trifle This is a light, cool dessert for summer. You could make it with light pudding and whipped topping for a lower calorie dessert. 1 family sized pound cake 1 pkg instant vanilla puding 1 1/2 c milk 8 oz fresh strawberries 8 oz fresh blueberries 1 8 oz container whipped topping, thawed. Cut pound cake into approx. 1" pieces and set aside. Mix pudding & milk about 1 min and set aside. Place half of cake pieces in trifle bowl (any bowl will work but you get a good presentation in the trifle bowl), layer half of fruit(s), half of pudding, and half of whippped topping on top of cake. Repeat layers again. Cover and chill for up to 24 hours. Garnish with additional fresh fruit if you like. You can use different berries if you'd like. I also add raspberreis if I can find them at a decent price. This time I used a family size pudding and 2 c milk. It soaked the pound cake a little better.
