Name That Plant!

Pretty yellow flower perennial

Hi, we have a small perennial in our garden that the previous owner planted and we'd like to ID. We live in SE Michigan and this plant gets part sun/part shade exposure. It's less than one foot tall and about one foot in diameter. Thanks for the help!

Something along the lines of Primula veris, I think.

That is a lovely little thing! It appears to be a double cowslip (Primula veris as Carol says). A British native in its single form. I've never seen a double. Cherish it. By that I don't mean mollycoddle it - it is a native of hay meadows and open downland and is not used to rich living. Don't be tempted to feed it or fiddle with it. It looks happy just where it is.

flora_uk - I think that's it. The pictures I've seen online are a good match, and I vaguely remember having a plant called "Alyssum". esh_ga - I was just worried about putting large photos directly here because I've heard it causes problems for people with slower connections.

I don't know what its name was, but I found a beautiful soft yellow one last summer. It was gorgeous in my blue and yellow border, and didn't get over two feet high at the most. It also didn't return this spring. I was sick and couldn't find it again. This may or may not be the same one you have, but I'd overwinter a cutting just in case until you see how the mother plant does.
