killing weed seeds in bags
Comments (4)In reality you would probably get as many seeds from the wind as you would by spreading those grass clippings around. I would not put them into plastic bags at all and if I did not mulch mow the grass clippings back to where they really belong, the lawn, and did collect the grass clippings they would go right on the garden as a mulch....See More3 bags of topsoil but w/weeds and grass
Comments (2)Perhaps not in two or three weeks but the only thing I can think of is to incase the dirty soil inside a trash bag or tarp not sure if you want to pre treat it with a weed killer or not but you do need to get that soil hot hot hot this is an atempt to sterilize any other seeds as well key thing is to deprive the soil of oxygen get it hot and adjust it after Just as a reminder it may take longer then two three weeks depending on Air temps and area weather and keep the tarped or bagged soil as dry as you can and in as much sun as you can get. warning to the stench when you open up that bag or uncover it though let it breath if you can on sunny days from time to time....See Morekilling weeds and grass in the garden
Comments (11)I agree with Al. Last spring I helped my sister install a new flowerbed. I was only there for three days so we had to work fast. We tilled up the bed right out of her lawn and worked in some manure. We then covered the entire area with ten sheets thickness of newspaper. We cut small holes in the newspaper to plant the bedding plants in. I spoke with her last night and she said the plants have done great and the grass has not been a problem. You can plant your bulbs in the same way. By the time they start coming up, the newspaper will have softened and be rotting enough for them to break their own way through. (Don't use newspaper with colored, slick ink. It takes way too long to break down, if it ever does.)...See MoreHot composting does not kill weeds re poppies
Comments (13)Al, I don't have grass type greens to add, I used to have lawn with clippings, but they did not get it hot enough. The used coffee grounds makes it really hot, but you need to add the osh redwood bagged. There is no other formula I found that works. Old pumpkins from Halloween if you can get them are good, but you can not get them most of the time. Broderbarb, Thank you for sharing the witchgrass page. I think newspapers have ink are unsuitable. I would need some plainish cardboard without printing. I have only a small area around some of the edges of my yard, which have to do with the neighbors. It has not spread to the whole yard or anything drastic like that. I have to look into finding some kind of cardboard that would be not dyed or printed. I was thinking about cotton muslin, you can get it from a sewing store, undyed, low priced. Cotton would bi degrade, but it would take a much longer time. One might change the material from time to time, but I have plant roots in the area so I have to be concerned about creating a barrier for those roots. I may not want to block the area. I might be better off with just cutting it off as it comes up. That's the only reason why it is not spreading any longer. I would have think it over and experiment. Do you still have problems with it coming from the neighbors? One can not jump the fence and do a treatment to their yards, however much one may wish to do so....See Morenothwehr
