Mauvegirl, there are no roses in the Garden of Tears. However, a 12' tall star jasmine espalier that spanned the entire side of this garden was recently killed when a neighbor sprayed the morning glories on her side of the espalier wire with Roundup. This destroyed the intimate privacy of the Garden of Tears, and the search is on for another plant that will restore the garden. Roses are being considered, but since I want to keep the garden austere, it'll take some consideration to determine whether to use roses, and if so, which ones. The statue was made for another garden, which was never completed. I wanted a smaller angel, perhaps even a child for the Garden of Tears, but was unable to make a trade, so I finally brought this angel in. As I feared, she overpowers the garden, but she's still a beautiful and moving piece that many people love. jannike

Told my DH about this one and he drove me the 2 hours to get there!!! It was one of the biggest & best I have been to. What a selection and the best prices I've ever seen! I got a 3 gallon yesterday, today and tomorrow for $12!!!! I've never seen this plant under $20. Also got a blue hibiscus(alyogyne huegelii)and a geranium with pink fringed blooms. I know it was a long way to go for 3 plants, but it was so nice just walking around and enjoying all the vendors and it's an easy ride up I 75. Glad you told us about it. Julie

No one should miss a chance to hear Kelly Bender speak! She is knowledgeable, charming, and will undoubtedly add much to the Butterfly Festival. She co-authored with Noreen Damude the book Texas Wildscapes: Gardening for Wildlife, which is a must-have for anyone wanting to plant natives to attract wildlife, including butterflies! And, no, I am not Kelly's mother!
