Making your own fish emulsion?

Has anyone successfully made their own fish emulsion? And if so, how? My father-in-law goes fishing nearly every day, and it's a shame for all those leftover fish parts go to some landfill. I searched the forum for info, and had a lot of fun reading about exploding buckets and such, but I was wondering if I could do this at home without legions of maggots or troupes of invading racoons?

More exploding bucket/maggot/smelly dog stories are very welcome. What NOT to do is always worthy information! :)

Also, even if I make rivers of fish emulsion, there will still be plenty of fish parts available. How do you all add these to the compost/garden without attracting undesirable domestic or feral visitors?
