Do milkweed/oleander aphids hurt ladybugs???

I have lots of butterfly weed this year in my butterfly garden, and some of them have gotten the milkweed aphids, those little orange/yellow guys.

At least this year I know what they are. Last year I thought they were monarch eggs and got excited. LOL.

Today I found some ladybugs eating at the buffet! I was excited and then googled it and came across this:

It says this type of aphid creates defects in ladybugs and lacewings. Does anyone know if this is true???

I was planning on leaving the aphids as food for my beneficials (unless they really get out of control, I might spray some off with the hose...they just aren't problematic at all). But I don't want to poison my friends.
