Oh my goodness, how on earth did I miss this post??? Thankfully a friend sent me the link. I don't know where to begin to thank you all for the beautiful pictures and good wishes, they really all made me smile and wish I had more time to come here. I have severe spring fever and cannot wait to get out there digging and planting. I will surely share lots of pics of my roses with you all when I get a vacation this summer. Buddy continues to thrive right along with me here in our new home, life is good but living alone means I need to work a bit more than usual, hence my absense from here, but please be assured that I think of each and everyone of you often. Life will settle down into a better routine soon I am sure but for now my goal has to be work and buying new roses, LOL. Thank you all for thinking of me and remembering my special day. I did take that day off from work and spoiled myself rotten with some movies, a good newspaper and a nice meal with a little cake and strawberries, it was truly an enjoyable day, so thanks one more time, your pink roses make me long for mine to be in bloom soon with 27 new additions expected this spring. Olga - I'm near Ashton in NE Montgomery Co., on Haviland Mill Rd, off New Hampshire Ave and about 5 miles East of Olney ~ 12 miles N of the DC Beltway. Since there are several of us who grow OGRs in the area, perhaps we could benefit by getting together. I formed a heritage roses group here back in the early 1980s that had a short but fun run. Perhaps we can do something more interactive again, not necessarily a formal group, but who knows. I for one can learn much from all of you here on the forum, but also here in the area. - Best

Thanks all! It's been a great one so far. My coworkers started off the celebration on Thursday with a cake, ice cream, whole milk (to go with the chocolate cake) and singing... (and a "Happy 50th" mug... seeing as how they "celebrated" my 40th four years ago...).

Steve woke me up this morning with mimosas and breakfast in bed, then I went to the farmer's market with a friend and her daughter, and we took the long way back so we could admire the spring flowers and trees in blossom in a particularly beautiful part of town. When I got home I split some cupcakes a friend gave me with Steve, and then made a little more progress on my new garden.

Tonight we're taking a dozen or so good friends out for dinner at a nice restaurant, and Steve made arrangements with the restaurant (he had to go to a bakery, since the restaurant doesn't make one) for us to have a couple flourless dark chocolate cakes with raspberry puree under a ganache for dessert (my favorite).

I'm leaving out tons of details, but suffice it to say that my introduction to my 40s has been a good one. I feel loved, happy, blessed... and YOUNG!

Thanks for thinking of me. :o)

Oh, and Don? I think I'll take every day for the rest of my life off from selling insurance!

Please forgive my tardiness, Michelle. I'm drowning in flowers at the moment but my heart and wishes were there helping you celebrate. I'm glad you had such a great b'day. Forties are GOOD! That's when women begin to hit their stride. Enjoy!!!!
