Thanks purpleinopp. I saw it didn't link properly but after at least an hour of trying to post on this site (trying to login, trying to find the page again after logging in, trying to upload photos, trying to resize and reupload photos, posting photos on flickr instead, trying to delete the uploading photos, trying to upload the link etc.etc.etc) I gave up making it work. It is rather difficult to figure out this site and I'm pretty computer literate. It could be way easier to post here. I hope it ends up being worth it and someone can name this tree for me!

There are NOT baby "water moccasins" (Cottonmouths). Your friend clearly doesn't know much about snake identification. This is a hatchling of either the Southern Black Racer (Coluber constrictor) or possibly the Eastern Coachwhip (Coluber flagellum) (the babies are difficult to distinguish from just the head. These snakes are harmless lizard eaters. The Southern Black Racer is one of the most common snake in Florida and that is the way I would lean on this one based on this photo. Claire do you mean me? I don't remember mentioning it but your question is relevant. Our house smelled terrible when we bought it due to un-tended pets. Gutting down to beams, studs, and joists took care of that though! Only the master bedroom and finishing stuff like baseboards are left to do, Husband is working on it slowly and sporadically as work allows. Which is practically never...
