My lenten rose just started blooming..which is pretty late,I know. However,she was started from seed by a friend who gave her to me last year when she was still little. What a surprise to see those pretty little flowers. Aubrieta always make me smile in the spring with their perky purple flowers and the last picture is one of 3 star magnolias which were shoots from their mother who bit the dust 2 years ago. Michelle and Robin..your photos are breathtaking. Glad you started this thread.

All the pictures are beutiful. My daffs are in full bloom but are all hanging their heads and huddling together today from the cold. If they could talk I am sure they would say "turn up the heat!"

Marda my Lenten Rose bloomed last week and brouth a smile to my face, I too love seeing them in the spring.

I had one, count it one, crocus left that the long tailed furry little nut collector's didn't eat...........it was rather funny to see it all by its lonesome.

All of the pictures are great. My spring flowers have seen very little sun this year and are looking pretty sad.

Daffodils, hyacinths, primroses, scilla. Lots of buds everywhere! So exciting!

The banksia roses are winding down and the cecile brunner roses are just now starting to cover with blooms. Many of the other roses are budding like crazy so this next week will be colorful. There is tons of new growth on the ferns especially the maiden hairs.

I can't tell you how many times I've gone to the gallery and looked at those wonderful pictures. Her gardens are just wonderful.

What a treat these great photos are, especially because we've had a late frost here and I've had to drag all my little seedling pots back inside for a few days. But my Grancy Greybeard tree (Chionanthus) is abloom . I noticed the pot full of water this winter and thought I'd lost it as the drainhole evidently was clogged with roots. Meant to go out and knock a hole in side of container but forgot...but it pulled through. I do love spring. josh

The last of my daffs (the Ice Follies) are just about done & the iris & columbine are blooming & the roses are in their first big flush of bloom. It's great to see the pictures & watch spring advance from south to north.

I'm posting this one for Agnes,alias Aileen since she's having a problem doing it. It's still hard for me to picture amaryllis growning in the ground and not forced in a pot. Aren't these wonderful?

What a charming house, Aileen. You must be in zone 8b....I planted out an Amaryllis one year but just got those handsome leaves, no blooms the following years. Your display must stop traffic. josh

That's her back yard,you should see the front. One whole side is nothing but camellias and when we were there a couple of year ago they were all blooming..just gorgeous.

M, I didn't know aubretia looks like that, nice. I think our climate is too humid(?) for them and so it is unseen here. Sad. That and lilacs. We can't grow those well at all either.

Agnes/Aileen, are those St. Joseph's lilies? Mine are just starting to bloom right now & I love them. And I love that porch on your house! Do you have a porch swing? I hope so.

Josh, I'm thinking you could probably grow amaryllis in the ground as far north as 7b. I know I can grow them in zone 8a. I always put the amaryllis I get for Christmas into the ground after they bloom & they come up & re-bloom year after year.

Andie, yeah, I think they are St Joseph's Lilies.

For those of you that don't know, the St Joseph's lily is supposed (don't know if it's true) to be the parent lily of all the amaryllis bulbs today. Native of Africa. It's easy to grow and multiplies like crazy. It's also a lot hardier than some of the more recent varieties. Unless we have a freeze or heavy frost, the leaves will stay green all year. It's a good lily for those on the borderline zones.

Glad you like my porch.. Of course, I have a porch swing. Life wouldn't be the same without one. The only time I see the front of my house is going in and out of the driveway.

Agnes, Do you grow Byzantine glads too? They are pretty hard to find in the trade (the real ones, that is, not those pale Dutch imitations) & when you can find them they are $$$. Luckily, I've been able to coax a bunch out of some little old ladies around here. They are electric magenta, look great in the garden & are just starting to bloom here.

Agnes, I have porch envy. A customer that I went to last week had great gobs of those amaryllis all over the font yard. Very striking.

Robin, Good to see Keegan,the close up pics show their personalities so well. Some of ours are getting up there in age too. What is the tree with the pink/red blooms?

Marda, I like the Magnolia stellata, we had one with purple blooms some years ago.

Don I'm dying to know what it is too! It's actually a big ruffly looking bush. Nice and chaotic. I've asked a couple of places, except, Name that Plant forum. I guess I can try it next.

Rob and Don....I think it's what is known commonly as a Tulip Tree, Saucer Magnolia, Oriental Magnolia or Japanese Magnolia. Take your pick.

They come in colors from pale, almost white, pink to deep purple-pink. I once saw a pale yellow but I am not sure it was the same kind of tree.

Hey PB! The first picture is a magnolia, true. Smells good! But I thought Don was talking about my 3rd picture. I definitely don't know what it is. Do you know? It's my neighbor's and I am in love!

Rob...oh, THAT one! I don't know. looking at the leaf and the way the flowers cluster on the limb, it looks as if it could be some kind of flowering crab apple. Does it seem to be an old tree?

They are doing so much in developing new varieties now that it is hard to keep up with them unless you are very serious about such things. I just take what sprouts up in the yard, and give thanks for small favors.

OK, two questions for "all y'all" about this pic:
1) Can you find the hidden sleeping bee?
2) What kind of tree do you suppose lives near my daffies?

Yesterday as I was talking to my mom on the phone, a giant dragonfly flew past me and it was all I could do not to change the subject.

The carpet of trout lilies in the woods behind my house has begun blooming, my first tulip opened yesterday, trees are blooming and beginning to leaf, our lawn was mowed this weekend, the frogs are deafening (and have been for a while), I slapped my first mosquito yesterday (BOO!), most of my perennials are waving their leaves at me... things are picking up! Spring's cadence is quickening and growing louder and I am completely absorbed in the music of it all!

Marda, that Magnolia "Elizabeth" is stunning...how old is she? And could we beg a closeup of the blossoms? The yellow looks soft and butter-creamy rather than the somewhat strident yellow I feared. Just beautiful. josh

I got to go back to spring when I was in St. Louis last weekend. Tulips blooming all over the place making me remember just why I loved them so much when I lived up north. I've pretty much given up on them down here as you have to chill them for 6-8 weeks & then when they bloom it's starting to get hot so the blooms only last a couple of days.

Also loved all the flowering cherries, especially the weeping variety. We can't grown them either.

However, I came home to all my roses in their first magnificant flush of bloom, the daylilies starting to bloom as are the first crinums. Of course, the weeds have also taken flight, but right now everything is just too pretty to believe.
