I LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!! This hormone is AwEsOmE!! I have used rooting hormones & been impressed with the results, but Keiki Pro is awesome! I've saved a couple vandas with it! I've made a few Keikis on other vandas & my phals. I've also used it to stimulate the old back bulbs of a couple rescue Cattleyas that someone gave me! Be sure that you follow the dilution suggestions that they suggest in the literature (I think they may have more info & formulations on their website). I have gotten adventurous with it in the past & burnt Pseudobulbs & stems (thus destroying any chance of making a keiki from that stem). What kind of orchids are you planning to try it on?

well intially it'll be tested on a select few of my worse off orchids, and then should it prove effective i'll start nodding out my four vanillas and maybe offer up trades on the forum and then later i'll have to put it on my rarer species and specimen plants so i can totally rock my local OS, mwa hahaha lol basically i will more then likely use it to get my collection to size faster.

Is this better than keikigrow? Do you have to follow with a root stimulator product like keikiroot? Has anyone tried both keikigrow and keiki pro?

I'm not definite about this, but the growth stimulant hormone for both keikgrow and Keiki pro are similar if not the same. It's basically the suspenension that the hormone is in. Whether it be a paste or a liquid suspension, both work equally fine. Keiki pro does recommend that you dilute the chemical with water a bit. At full strength it could burn.

I would not mix KeikiPro and Keiki Grow together. Too much of a good thing is not such a good thing. There is a distinct difference between the 2 products, Keiki Grow (paste) has a cytokinin in it for stimulating cell division. The makers of it suggest you follow up with a different Keiki Root (paste) for continued growth of those divided cells and for root growth. This second product contains an auxin to accomplish this.

KeikiPro is a stable liquid concentrate that has both of these hormone types present in one single application. You mix it with water 2-3 drops per ounce, and spray it or rub it on the growth areas of your plants.

Briefly.......cytokinins can be anti-auxins, and auxins can be anti-cytokinins. If the balances are off it could spell trouble. Mixing hormone products together can cause there to be too much of one and not enough of the other, I would NOT recomend it.

Well KeikiPro is certainly cheaper, because it does not require a potential follow up with a different product later. It is simply a matter of personal usage preference. Lots of people have used pastes over the years and had success, however it may require some extra considerations at times, such as keeping the plant out of bright light for a period of time, or increasing nitrogen levels etc. Perhaps even having to come back later with a rooting paste to complete the new keiki growth.

KeikiPro is an all in one product, and you do not have to do anything special after applying it. Now full disclosure here........KeikiPro is my product, so I may be somewhat biased. Facts are facts however, no matter who's product it is being talked about. Simply mix it with water and then spray or rub it on your plants growth points at certain times and thats it. Simple and effective

So it needs to be diluted before use? Don't use as is?

heres the keikipro eval test
the hypothesis : keikipro can induce growth in dormant nodes

test run time: 30 days
test subject: Cyc. warscewiczii in growth stage x3
substances used:
keiki pro at 100% str here on referred to as kkp
Giberrelic Acid at a measure of 500 ppm now referred as GA
and plain tap water

keikipro (kkp from here on out) was applied to one of three siblings as the positive. Ga was used on the second as a known growth auxin and normal water was applied on the third as a control. Along with normal watering on all three plants

here are the results the, photos were taken this morning

first up is the orchid exposed to kkp., there were three immediately noticeable new growths on or at the base of the orchid along with one growing underneath a another one and one under a growth developing previous to the experiment and two more on the other side, so five in total.

this one is the known IE: GA. On this one the results weren't as spectacular only two new growths at the base of the plant and they were on the smallish side.

in conclusion the statements made by kkp are legit , or at least are in this case. i applied kkp to other plants but for lack of duplicates i cant run a true experiment only make notes on whats worked and what hasn't only Myrmecaphila. humboldtianna has been resistant all others ive seen older nodes become active also i think a 100% solution was to strong for my Ang. scottianum.

any ways i guess i'm happy with the product and will now commense to order more as need be. i hope this is usefull to some one .

I've been using the paste, and it does work, but it's very gluey and a couple of times the nascent bud grew but was glued shut by the paste, and never opened out.

Haven't figured out what would dissolve the paste without damaging the plant.

Any ideas, anyone?

i just bought Keiki grow which is a paste made with vaseline type goo. I don't know the answer to your question, mehitabel, but on my stuff it says to be sparing in the application so i have wiped off some the excess after applying. the keikiroot i bought is the same type of goo and i find that the goo seem to thicken after a couple of days when I put on too much. i have only just started so i have had no results yet.

lunaticvulpine, thanks for putting the pictures up. I have used this on inactive Cattleya & oncidium bulbs. I am planning to try using it on my Chiloschistas when the plants (hopefully) bloom later this summer. Keep measurements on its growth rate compared to the other plants!

sue, i applied the GA via q-tip so that i could ensure that the exposure was directly on the p-bulb.

I'd suggest using small amount of ethyl or rubbing alcohol to dissolve the excess paste either that or a bit of warm water.

Ray, i plan on making several updates to this although i botched my experiment by going and apply kkp to the control lol, any ways theres some things i've tried it on that have not responded so i may try re applying later who knows,

I'm sorry I've had several of those things and every one has vexed me so, i suppose that you could apply some to the nodes along the p-bulb and hope for the best, from my experience i know that one to be extremely temperamental
but at that point i wouldn't fuss over it much maybe some kkp then set it oput of site for a while and hope some thing comes of it.

Producing keikis won't do you much good if you have the rot to contend with, as well. I have experience with rot, and was reluctant to use chemicals, but in the end, they were the only thing that (hopefully) is saving my plant. Choose a room that you can close off for a few days from your dogs and cats and spray with a systematic fungicide/bactericide. Don't disturb the plant and don't water until the medium has dried out completely. You'll have to repeat the process twice more at weekly intervals. If you don't treat the rot, it will spread to the developing keikis.
Sorry to be so brutal, and sorry I can't supply you with names of products. Chemical fungicides are toxic as a rule, but not as toxic as pesticides IMO.

i have used physan: i don't think that is toxic. it worked very well to get rid of fungus. i don't know about bacteria although it suggests to use it for seedlings and deflasking.

Judy unless you are using something in an aerosol can, you do not have to spray pesticides. If they are liquid, paint the plant using a paint brush and if systemic, sit the plant in the sink and pour on and through.

If an aerosol product, take it outside to spray.

Once the plant is dry, it is safe to handle and touch.

if you need a quick safe fungicide, try some thing between cinnamon? and aspirin I've tried both and the cinnamon works better for me as far as pesticides i try not to use more than safers orange insecticide and dilute bits of alcohol for scale and stuff.
