Tyler, I am SO glad you could make it. I was volunteering with security and the members sale table on Saturday so we must have just missed each other.

It was pretty crowded, wasn't it! Part of my job was to stop people from nudging or touching the plants when they leaned in to take photos. I had several mini heart attacks when parents decided it would be a good idea to have fidgety and grumpy children pose on their own in front of the delicately balanced displays for photos, but luckily no harm was done. I'm glad to hear that Sunday was just as busy, because that means more revenue for society events and speakers next year.

So don't keep us in the dark - what did you buy? :)

You may have an Aerangis pumilio, also known as Aerangis hyaloides. Did you get it from the Kennedy's? (downstairs sales area, right in front of the entrance)

The SOOS has great shows. I've been to many of them, but not any in the last 2 years or so..

Cal, it's a good thing I wasn't there this time...when a plant interests me and there's no one around to help (as it can get very busy) I pick up the pot/ mount...I haven't been stopped yet. :)

It was very crowded on Sunday. Parking lot was full, and it was almost shoulder to shoulder in the show room. Not a big fan of being that packed in, so it was trying at times. I have to say too that there were some very aggressive older ladies out there with their walkers. I got shoved aside a couple times :)

I picked up 9 plants in all. My biggest purchace yet I think...how could I pass up the chance when I wouldn't be paying any shipping fees? :)

If you mean the Kennedys from Orchids In Our Tropics, then yes, that's who I bought from. They were great. It looked like they had a couple plants set aside for me that weren't on their website.

Might I say EXCELLENT plant choices? :) Mr. B has converted us all. And I'm impressed - I was looking around for ang leonis and I couldn't find it anywhere...did you get it from the Kennedy's too?

Also, if you join our society and volunteer with the show next year, you can avoid the crowds completely, and shop to your hearts content an hour before they arrive. Just a suggestion :)

:) Yes, I got everything from the Kennedys. I was going to buy a few from Clouds as well, but when I saw how many I already had I decided I'd better hold off. Good thing too, as there is absolutely no more space right now.

Ooh, I like your case! Is it a purchase, or something you made yourself? You mentioned a post where you talked about it, but I seem to have missed that one. I built a case, but it's got more of a seamless look. I'm not thrilled with my lid, appearance wise, as it is warping upward, but it is actually functional, because it is allowing for air circulation. Who knew? Anyway, I like that there is a rail to hang mounted orchids in your case. Mine are just propped up by the walls.

I like your list of goodies, too. Articulata's on my list, but I don't know if I have the room. At least your case is tall, and you can have two tiers of orchids. Mine's only a foot tall, and a good 3-4 inches of that is drainage substrate.

Just curious, what is the plant at the upper left in the second and third photos? I like the way it looks.

Amazing setup, Tyler - absolutely love it. In the last photo, is that the aeranthes dead center? I have mine potted, so it will be interesting to see how yours grows...I didn't mount mine because they get quite large, but your cork slab looks decent sized.

Q - I was going to ask about the same plant too - are you talking about that dendrobium like thing? Great minds think alike eh! And the thread was here :)

Brooke - I love Dendrobiums. They're my favorite genus just because of the huge variation, but unfortunately most of them are far too big for my space. There are four more Dens in the case...three moniliformes and an unicum (all sad looking and mostly leafless at the moment). I have four more somewhat larger Dendrobiums outside the case as well.

quinnfyre - It's a modified purchase. The case was sold as an acryllic atrium and had a screen top and a section in the front that was also made of screen mesh. I cut out the screen at the top and replaced it with a sheet of glass to which I had siliconed pieces of cork to act as spacers to let air in and allow me to feed in the tube from the fogger. To the screen section at the front I just
siliconed another piece of glass without first removing the screen. I also had to silicone the base, as it was not water tight. I'm also finding that the acrylic is warping though hopefully the aluminum frame will keep it from getting too bent out of shape.

The plant in the top left corner for the second and third pictures is the Den lawesii that I purchased at the orchid show.

Calvin - The Aeranthes is the one with the tag centered in the second to last picture. The one in the last photo was another purchase from the show, but I can't remember which off the top of my head, and I can't check right now (I'm at work). It's likely the articulata or the mystacidii though.

There are many things inside the case that are going to get much larger than they are currently. I have six seedling sized phals in the bottom that are eventually going to have to be removed, and I don't even know what I'm going to do with the Ang sesquipedale. It's only about 6" tall right now, but if the ones on display at the show are any indication it's only at about 1/4 of it's final size. Hopefully once some of the other plants can be removed I'll have space for the larger sized Angs to grow.

It's official, you need another case : )

But my guess is, nothing in there grows so fast that you couldn't get away with this setup for at least a year or two. I can't say for sure, so hopefully someone else can chime in to confirm (or say that I'm wrong). I have three that are growing really well (Aerangis biloba, citrata, and mystacidii) but are in no danger of outgrowing their spaces anytime soon.

I already succumbed to "need another case" disease. I got a glass reptile terrarium. It's unfortunately not quite large enough to put everything I wanted to in there, but it has a smaller footprint (taller than it is wide) so it's easier to figure out where to put it. I'm rapidly running out of surface area.

No, nothing in spike at the moment unfortunately. I got my Aerangis luteoalba var. rhodosticta to spike before though so hopefully it's just a matter of time.
