New Homeowner - IDing inherited Garden

Hello!
I'm a total newb to gardening and when I bought my house last fall I inherited some plants & shrubs. I don't want to miss any important Spring care steps, but I'm not sure what I have. I'm including a guest pass to a flickr set with a series of photos. I'm hoping to a veteran eye it will be clear what's what - I just see "green stuff" right now :)

Appreciate any help or direction !

Plant 1 - Rose? Climbing?
Plant 2 - Hydrangea - type of?
Plant 3 - Pineapple Sage
Plants 4,5,6 - unknown
Plant 7 - unknown / evergreen
Plant 8 unknown / kept leaves over winter-rust colored
Plant 9 unknown / evergreen

Plant 1 - Rose? Climbing? Yes a rose, can not tell if it is a climber
Plant 2 - Hydrangea - type of? Looks like Hydrangea macrophylla
Plant 3 - Pineapple Sage
Plants 4,5,6 - unknown silvery white is dusty miller, and the two shades of pink are either a Vinca or an impatience, I think. Both are tender perennials, and the dusty miller is I think is a biennial which may come back for you.
Plant 7 - unknown / evergreen. Boxwood I think. Does the foliage smell rank when bruised?
Plant 8 unknown / kept leaves over winter-rust colored. Azalea
Plant 9 unknown / evergreen. Azalea
Plant 10 unknown / evergreen. Azalea, three different varieties for 8-10.
Plant 11 unknown / evergreen Variegated Euonymus
Various Herbsp Looks like sage, mint, Rosemary and one I don't know.

Oh my gosh! This is wonderful :)
It was SO daunting to get started when I couldn't even name the plants. Overjoyed to have some direction!
(#7 does smell a little odd when bruised, and skimming other boxwood images it does seems like a match)

Planting your citrus in a half barrel is OK, as long as your mix is fast enough draining so that you are not depending on the tree for transpiring enough water from the soil to allow the air into the roots. You may consider using a cactus mix, which should be available in your area. Citrus grown in a container should be fertilized monthly with a fertilizer labeled for citrus, containing the minors required for citrus. Let the foliage of your citrus tell you when your trees are happy. A healthy citrus will have clean dark green leaves from top to bottom. Welcome, Rich. Your bay has scale which secretes a sticky substance called honeydew. That's what the mould grows on. Scale is hard to eradicate even with poisons and personally I wouldn't bother. The problem may be much less next year. You can see it as small bumps on the stems which will scrape off with a finger nail. The leaves are perfectly safe to cook with if you wash them thoroughly. BTW 7ft is by no means mature height for a bay. It can get to 30 feet but will cope with heavy trimming. This is my neighbours bay.

Actually, that was the side I didn't do anything to other than cut a few of the larger berry bushes at the bottom of the hill. That birch is in rough shape and without staking it up and waiting several years, it won't survive. I would just assume take it down since it's not really in a great location anyway. I hate to do it since they are becoming relatively scarce due to disease and insects. This picture http://minus.com/lbx4OfKnwRF4xc shows what are definitely blackberry/raspberry bushes. I wouldn't mind having them, in fact I would welcome having a ton more, just not here. Being on the slope they will not be easy to get to when the mature and have fruit. If there was a way to transplant them or something I would love to hear it. I had tried it in the past, but the only way I have ever seen them grow was by accident and negligence. Based on the size of a few of the lower bushes, I would bet they may produce a limited amount of fruit. The smaller ones at the top of the hill however are definitely not mature enough from my experience. Going off on a tangent... I loved having berry bushes growing up and we had a large sandy area on my parent's property that they grew like crazy in. They eventually began to die off and my dad chopped them all down. The began to come back by the time I went to college, but it took a while to get any amount of fruit from them. My last year at college I rented a small cottage on a back road that had the biggest patch of black raspberries I had ever seen. I started picking as soon as they began to ripen and then ever couple days for the next 3 weeks. I stopped for lack of room in the freezer for 1gal ziplock bags. I made at least a dozen pint jars of jam and a few quarts. I gave a bunch away but i'm hoarding the last few of the "good" batch for myself. :) So in other words, I would love to have berry bushes, just not where they are. A lot of what you see on the ground on the left side (looking from the house) is debris and not much in the way of live plants other than some weeds. Obviously it is still very early here and not much has come up yet though. The tree shown in the background of this picture http://minus.com/lbwhVJrx76OE9d appears to be planted from what is left of the mulch/preparation around the base. This shot http://minus.com/lvFny84VUSjeW shows a rock swail that comes down from what is left of the last owners fish pond sort of thing. There is a reddish low lying plant growing on either side that I failed to get a close up picture of. It appears that it will look nice later in the spring but needs some weeding and/or mulching. I will take your advice and try posting some pictures on the "name that plant" forum. In the meantime, would I benefit from getting some sort of tall meadow grass mix to put down in a few weeks? *whoops, I wrote a book

I think it's kind of rude to comment just to tell me what I did wrong by asking for help (with plenty of detail) and using pictures that were readily available to me. If you are giving advice, which is what I asked for, these pictures are good enough. It doesn't matter on what site, on what forum- there is always one person who just HAS to pipe up to be unhelpful and critique your request instead of answering your questions. I was asking for advice on my own fledgeling plan- not asking for free design from someone. Next time if you don't have anything helpful to say, and if you can't give your thoughts nicely, just don't say anything. I'm sure it's satisfying to try to discourage new gardeners by giving your two cents about their photos, their ideas, and whatever else without giving your opinions on the questions actually posed. Going on the attack like that with the third degree, "You indicate you are new at creating a landscape, and frustrated by attempting the process of planning it. Then you go on to say how you intend to resolve it. Do you care if those ideas are good? Or you just want help in how to implement them? You might consider advice on what you ought to do instead of what you want to do." I'm not a child and am fully capable of planning and doing it on my own, thank you, I'm just here to see if a KIND person might give a few suggestions or point out something they've seen that looked nice on a similar house. Also, there is nothing wrong with being honest about what's in the cards for you (budget, time, and overall investment wise) than just wasting everyone's time. I didn't want a thread with 20 responses about how I need to limb up, thin, or remove trees in my yard. I want a thread about how to plant a line of perennials in front of my house that will look nice together. I think in my essay of a post I made that fairly clear.

Plant 3 - Impossible to say at this stage. Re-post once it's got foliage and/or flowers..

Plants 4,5,6 - Yes, dusty miller & flowering vinca. I don't see any impatiens in the photo.

The "various herbs? Groundcover" is English ivy. You'll probably want to remove that.

Yes, last one looks like sage.

The one in the back of "various herbs" actually looks like pineapple sage. Even without flowers, you should still be able to get a hint of pineapple scent if you break off a small leaf to smell it (or get very close to the plant and smell it)

Thank you - I appreciate the additional notes & confirmations. I was hoping the Azalea was just discolored coming out of winter - I'll try to look up some insect-damage pics and hopefully there's a solution!

Various herbs picture:

Salvia officinalis, perhaps the "Berggarten" variety which have larger, rounder leaves.

Melissa officinalis, lemon balm

Rosemary

Basil

I've not grown it, but pineapple sage others have suggested seems to be a possible match.

Sage? picture:

Yes. It gets pretty sad looking in the winter but wait. It perks back up.
