Baldan's website stopped operating months ago. I emailed them to ask what was going on and no one ever responded. Bizarre.

I bought some plants from them on Ebay a few months ago. They sell nice plants. I have two of their's in spike.

I have not been to the Baldan's house lately... I think the last time I was there might have been back in June or July when they were clearing EVERYTHING out to make room for some 20,000 plants (or that is what they told me) that had been waiting for them to make room. Their younger daughter told me they would be launching a new website (with the same URL) once the inventory was stocked up, cataloged, & photographed. Now 6 months later there is still nothing... If you love phals, check out Orchidview.com they have some neat hybrids & species. Oakhill Gardens also has a nice selection of species to choose from.

I hope they will launch a new website... i've been patiently waiting. I constantly look at their listings on ebay, but because they release one of each they are always expensive.... but gorgeous. If anyone hears any updates about Baldan's or their website, please let us know!

Liz, what kind of phals are you looking for? I mean standards, waxies, yellow, pink, red, multiflora, blush, huge flowers?

Just to mention three really lovely ones, all from Norman's:

Sogo Amar, a white multiflora with pink blush on the back of the flowers.

Brother Oconee, a dark, dark magenta with a sheen to the petals.

Nobby's Amy 'Shih Hua', AM/AOS. This is the most beautiful Nobby's I've seen. Very bright white with a bright pink blush, yellow lip. Really beautiful. Just glows. Many other Nobby's around, but the white is not as bright and the blush not as intense.

And a fourth: Sogo Pearl, got this at Chesterfield. Beautiful waxy yellow/green with harlequin markings. I bought the one with a few marks in the center. Really lovely.

None of these has the huge flowers.

Thanks for the updates, everyone. Mehitabel, I want some big flowers. I never did find a Queen Beer. I love the art shades and I'd like something in orange, gold, apricot. I'll have to think about what else I want. I'll let you know. I do hope Baldan's get their site up soon. I'm going to check out ebay.

For Valentine's Day my husband got me a Phal. Super Pixie 'Sweetheart' from Norman's. I saw this plant at the Pittsburgh Orchid Show last year and wanted it since. I've got a few bids in on Ebay for Baldan's, too. I hope I get one.

Hi Liz, welcome back. Good time to shop for Phals because many are blooming now.

Amazing what light can do for your orchids. Most problems, even over-watering, can be cured with good light.

I prefer the large-flowered Phals. Have a few, and there is nothing quite as dramatic as the large flowers with the long spikes.

I've never bought anything from Baldan's, but if you like phals, Baldan's Kaliedoscope is one of the best phals ever. Vigorous plant, big leaves, blooms 2 spikes for me virtually every year, flowers last forever. That is one great plant!
