Today, after a closer examination I see that the fruit/berries are still green. No borer damage apparent on the Sorbus alnifolia but adjacent Sorbus americana(see compound leaves in lower left corner) has borer damage around trunks basal region.

My first thought, it might a young Aloe juvenna. When I looked for images of Gold tooth Aloe, none had the beautiful bright yellow "spikes" like yours. 2 species came up for Gold tooth Aloe. A. nobilis and A. perfoliata. You might find more under those. Absolutely gorgeous Aloe!! :-)

Well, as long as you recognize it to be a monster, that's a good start - it's a monster of a nice plant, for sure. That 'monster' cactus likely came from the word 'monstrous' - from Dave's Garden 'Monstrous; An abnormal, distorted and disfigured growth of the body, not theapex. A naturally occuring mutant growth formation often resembling a club-like shape in cylindrical or columnar cacti and awavy body shape in cacti that have pads. Monstrose and monstrosus are botanical terms used to describe this formation.' I think it might be Cereus peruvianus 'Ming Thing'.
