I talked to a supplier and was told that the liquid will mold over time and keeping it cool will help slow this down. I live in a hot climate and buy the powder so I just mix what I will use. This also lowers the shipping cost. The powder must be kept dry or it will turn to paste which is still usable, but messy. I'll repack the powder into smaller airtight container to try and keep it dry. I was given a gal, not sure what brand, of the liquid as a gift and used it for several years with no noticable mold problems, but it did thicken up. Think it is really a matter of availabitity, cost, and personal preference. Kelp is sold as a meal or as an extract of the meal in liquid or powder form and provides some 60 trace elements and growth promoting hormones and enzymes. The meal is a slow release and the sprays and drenches are more quickly absorbed. I like to have both methods available. Hope that helps.

At this point, my plan is to build a small "cage" out of angle iron with a sleeve hitch yoke welded to it and a few clips for the boom. Then I can just drop the sprayer into the "cage", hook it up to the boom and start riding around. I modified a standard pull behind Brinly core aerator last year for sleeve hitch attach and it's been great, no more getting off every time you have to cross the driveway.

give it a try :) most stay away due to cost, but a little goes a long way since it's not used as a fertilizer, but rather addition to it. it's also not that expensive in recent years as more companies are starting to harvest it from the ocean. heck, with a $15/4lb bag of it you could make hundreds of gallons of kelp liquid to feed plants.. at least that is my plan.. maybe i will do some test next season to test the difference between homemade vs commercial. i'm mostly interested in finding out there is a difference to letting the kelp break down into basically black liquid compared to using it more fresh (like a week old kelp tea). the kelp has growth hormones and other valuable nutrients. no idea if letting the kelp decompose can alter or make the kelp less effective.. kelp is an amazing thing to use in the garden and should be use by more people in my opinion. there is a lot of research on it and the dramatic results it can have on plants.

I just bought my first kelp/seaweed extract. I'm excited to see how my plants like it. I used it as a foliar spray on my Adenium yesterday. I just transplanted some of my bouganvillea also. They are known for being very picky about moving pots. I gave some of the kelp and they are super bouncy and thriving (last re potting they were wilting a bit when I didn't use it). I think it helps with transplant shock. The one I'm using is Maxicrop liquid seaweed. I'll make a post about it later on if I notice great results. Did you cut the rot out if your Adenium yet?
