HI Christine. I'm in Lindenhurst. I've had 50/50 luck with cannas over winter. I've kept the in a brown bag Or a box with peat moss in my attic. This year, they are going in my basement because I think the attic got too cold ? If you look online, it will tell you how to overwinter them. Basically it is the same for cannas, dahlias and tuberous begonias. There is a certain temp. they stay best in, and also you have to make sure they don't get too dried out (like spritzing with water on occassion). Gets kind of technical - I keep it simple and cross my fingers. I've also seen cannas come back year after year here on long island if they are grown up against the house facing south. My friend saves her cannas and wraps them in newspaper and keeps them in her attached garage (my garage is detached so I can't keep them in there). Maureen
