Maybe, although the flowers on that one come out pretty early in the development of the shoot. Blind (non-flowering shoots) might look like this, I suppose. Otherwise the heavy tip of rolled leaves is quite like that of false solomon's seal.

When I saw the first plant ,I too was thinking Ageratina, but after looking at the pics, decided against it. Don't think its Verbesina virginica as the stem is too smooth. Agrimonia rostellata is a good fit for the second one, that's a new one for me. TulsaRose, thanks for the tip. Sports mode uses a fast shutter speed and needs a good deal of light. As JKekeesl pointed out, Im in heavy shade but I will give it a try. Part of my problem is poor eyesight, profuse sweating, and swatting attacking insects while attempting to take a pic !

You have some very nice gentiana in your area. No matter what it turns out to be, it should be nice. Interesting there's also a southern bottle gentian. I have a question. I see one gentian listed as Gentiana saponaria var. latidens, and I also see it listed as a separate species G. latidens so does anybody know what's up with that?

I was once given some Pinellia bulbs that were supposed to be Arisaema dracontium. As soon as I saw them flower, I removed them and put them in the trash. I have seen Pinellia ternata turned loose in a county garden where the offsets went down stream and have become a huge carpet of invasive plants. They are not charming!
