permanent repellent that works on moles voles gophers

I have the solution and its free and permanent! I keep reading posts and have tried it all for 30 years. My place is an extensive underground highway system - if you got rid of one someone else moves in. ANSWER: (ok sit down because you are going to laugh really hard) = 'dog poop'. Its that simple. Preferably dig out the entrance and drop dog waste in. If you can't, just move the new loose dirt, drop it on top of the active area and water it in. If its a visible tunnel, just interrupt it at any point and drop it in. It "contaminates the tunnel" and they won't come back. Beneficials are not bothered by it. Its organic. Its safe (I wouldn't use it in your veggie garden). If you don't have a dog I'm sure anyone who does will be happy to clean their yard for you... I pick it up using a plastic bag and wear disposable plastic gloves just to be sure...

When we did have a dog I had mole and vole activity the same as now that we do not have a dog. Moles change activity often for no apparent, to us, reason. This would be one way to get rid of the dogs excrement, but it is highly unlikely to have much affect on what moles do.

They hate my kitty litter. Moles are fickle, What works for one is not what works for another. Glad you are having success. Now I know what to do with neighbors dog poo, Gook luck.

Watermelons! I never would have thought they could bother those. I am surprised they aren't eating your wife's tomatoes. Maybe the hot peppers being next to the tomatoes is deterring them. I did try making a garlic and hot pepper solution that I sprayed on the onions and soil. I think it worked for a day or two, but after that the voles were back at the onions. They are eating my onions, potatoes, and asparagus. I expect they will get into the sweet potatoes too. I never expected anything to want to eat the onions, that one surprised me!

I'd like to clarify one point - the enemies here are the voles, which are herbivores; moles are carniverous and do not eat rose roots or roots of any other plant, they feed on grubs and insects. They do make unsightly tunnels and tear up the lawn, which is obviously why golf courses hate them. Castor oil may be effective against moles - but I can tell you I have tried it without success in controlling the voles. I have tried every known solution: poison, mothballs, vibrating stakes, castor oil, molemax and have found that the only reasonable solution is to plant everything in holes lined with wire mesh (thank you, Kaye). However, even that is not foolproof, as witnessed by the rose I lost last weekend which was planted this way. George

2 years ago the gophers took over our backyard and we tried everything everyone told us including the BB gun,all to no avail.Then dh heard someone on the radio say to go to the Mexican market,get the hottest peppers they sell,and drop them down the holes(wear gloves to do this).He did it and the gophers left.Thank goodness,as we were going crazy trying to stay ahead of them.Before dh heard that he had gone out and bought lots of pots from great big ones to small ones and dug up all our lilies,iris's etc and planted them in pots. So far this year we havn't seen any ,thank God. Kathi

I don't know about gophers but I've used the castor mixture with moderate to good success. This year I tried something new that I read about (I will try to find and post the link), it may not be new to some of you but...If you have cats or access to used cat litter (the clumping kind), take a clump (urine only!!!) and put it in the entrance hole. Sounds pretty gross but I've had less problems this year with moles..(none in fact) since putting a bit of used litter in all the holes I found..It was much easier and didn't seem to bring any other unwanted creatures around!
