There are a variety of approaches to dormancy. Ideally, if your area is cold enough without being too cold, outside would be best. Some of us live in the South and getting temps cold enough is an issue. So many folks use a fridge. For us in the North, the plants would freeze to death outside. So many of us use attics, garages, heavy mulching outside, and fridges. When my collection was small I had my 2 VFT's in the butter keeper. When we moved to a home with an upper and lower, with attic, I used the attic. it was cold enough, here in Western NY, to be in an unheated attic, but the heat from the 2nd floor kept it from being as cold as the outside. For a couple years I had to farm my collection to a co-worker's garage. This year I will be borrowing space from a wholesle greenhouse. One thing an attic with window does, though, is provide the cues for the plants to break dormancy, since they will respond to the increased daylength of mid-late winter. Light isn't necessary but it's more natural for breaking dormancy.

Holy Toledo! Nice collection you got there. IÂm just trying to rebuild my collection again but it still wasnÂt as big as yours. I grow mostly pitcher plants but I am trying to expand my collection of sundews& and butterworts. Anyways, seems my ping does look more like P. ÂSathosÂ. My ping I got is sold by Booman Floral from Vista, California. Just to make a positive i.d. is to wait for it to flower just to make sure. But thanks for showing me your collection. Aside from your collection, I noticed your P. lusitanica. It looks very similar to a ping I saw growing in the mountain called "Madre Sierra" in the state of Jalisco, in Mexico. It grows about 2 to 3 inches in diameter and its flowers are white, short spur and a yellow to yellow-golden throat and it grow on a 6 inch pubescent scape. I'e always wonder if I have discovered new species of ping because I have not found any description abut it anywhere in the Internet. So I plan to go there next year and collect some seeds and seed of a another type of ping that looks similar to P. Moranesis that turns dark red almost maroon under direct sunlight with violet colored flowers. But thanks again. Normally I donÂt purchase unidentified plants but at least I have an idea of what I may have. Now I have to wait for it to flower and confirm what it is. Thanks.
