A Rose By Any Other Name.......

Doesn't always smell as sweet. It's now the Federally observed George Washington's Birthday. Or as my Daddy used to say, George Birthington's Washday.

I remember when it was called that, and always felt old George got shortchanged when the term President's Day got coined. Fact is, it's never been officially changed, even though it's not celebrated on the 22nd. I didn't know that until tonight. Seems when the Monday holiday thingie came to pass in 1971, then President Nixon declared it to henceforth be President's Day. I also just found out, just because he said so, didn't make it. LOL. It seems that it was not within his power to do it, and although it's in popular useage now, as far as the Federal government goes, nothing changed.

Just an interesting factoid from surfing the net.

Here is a link that might be useful: George Washington's Birthday
