Name That Plant!

Tree ID wanted Sorry no pic

Hopefully someone will be able to ID this from the description. I can't find my camera. This tree was growing in Disney World and I assume other parts of Central FL. It's a fairly large tree with what look like clusters of small, dark purple grapes. I can't remember what the shape of the leaves were but the tree was very full. TIA

No. It's shaped kind of like a maple or other large canopy tree. I have no idea if it's deciduous or an evergreen. The clusters of fruit are shaped more like a triangular bunch of grapes and each fruit is smaller then the Sea Grape.

Gymnosporangium rust, a two-generational fungal disease affecting hawthorns, with the alternate generation affecting junipers. Not lethal, but somewhat debilitating in bad cases (which yours isn't) and can be rather unsightly. Look at the fruit clusters at the top just right of centre, and at the far right, and you can see some of the fruit are swollen, brown and lumpy, instead of green with a black tip. They are fruit infected with the fungus, and shedding spores which go to infect junipers. Infected junipers produce blobs of orangey jelly-like stuff that releases spores which then infect hawthorns again. Resin

1. Looks like a Mockernut hickory (Carya alba) Pignut usually has 5 leaflets on each compound leaf. 2. Closeup 2 is a Sweetgum, if you have seen none it is probably too young to make them yet. 3. Is some type of Crepe myrtle 4. Looks like another Mockernut hickory (Carya alba) 5. Yeah it is another Hickory. It looks ok though it looks like it has a little Bacterial wet wood infection but it should be fine. 6. Damage 1 has healed up but Damage 2 looks pretty bad if the tree is healthy it should heal back in a few years. 7. It is a American Holly (Ilex opaca) 8. Closeup 1 looks like a Southern Red Oak (Quercus falcata) and Closeup 2 looks like a White Oak. (Quercus alba) 9. Yes that hickory has had some past heavy damage it might or might not heal back. 10. That hickory should heal back in a few years. 11. Yes Loblolly Pine 12. Yes it looks like it is being stressed by something. 13. Yes it is a type of Magnolia hard to tell from th blur but it looks like a Southern Magnolia.but there are many other types of small Magnolias.

Great advice guys. I now need to buy a chainsaw to cut these trees of hell down. Any recomendations? Stihl, echo, husqvarna? I will have to look up how to identify the phloem interface because I have never cut down a tree. Is it unmistakable once the tree is cut down? When in doubt, I will just apply to the entire stump, not to worried about the waste as long as this sucker does not come back alive. This tree resides right on the property line between my yard and the neighbors yard. We moved into the property last summer so we are still identifying trees and such. This tree is about 30 feet from the neigbors septic drain field. He is having some problems with the drain field leaching up into the ground and now I am pretty confident that this Ailanthus roots are probably wreaking havoc on his drain lines. If I am unsure of where the tree is located on his or on mine and I have never met the neigbor, should I talk to him about it or just cut the beast down? I am assuming that this tree was planted by the previous owners or by this neighbor, but why? Or could this tree just sprouted up by the seeds blowing in the wind and landed where it is and grew up? Thanks for all the info!! Sam Ken, it might not feel like Alaska in Va but we think its chilly comming from Nevada.

It may not grow that far north, but Jaboticaba, Myrciaria cauliflora. has grapelike fruit

Could be some sort of privet, Ligustrum japonicum or lucidum. They are more like a tall shrub, but can put on a canopy/maple shape.

It's definitely a tree. It has a big single trunk and was at least 20' tall. I found my camera but no pics. I'm going to go nuts. I'm dying to know what it was.

What about Eugenia jambolana, the Jamun tree?

Ligustrum lucidum is often planted as a tree with a single trunk and elevated crown. L. japonicum is more shrubby in habit. Although the plants are rather different the names of these two have long tended to be juxtaposed.

Bboy I think it might very well be ligustrum lucidum. I looked thru more pics and saw some that looked like trees as opposed to large shrubs. SF Rhino had it to begin with. I just didn't look through enough pics. Thanks. I was getting ready to email Disney. lol
