do you have anything blooming?

I know, it is January, but someone somewhere must have something blooming.

I have a red amaryllis with one bloom open, and one one the way. It was a $2 special from the Target clearance, it came with a HUGE peat pellet and a chrome colored ceramic pot. I have two other amaryllis with buds coming up at the base that I overwintered last year. AND, I have Forsythia!! I cut a handful of branches last week and placed them in a vase on the kitchen table and they are about to open in the next day or so. It was so cool to watch the little yellow buds emerged from the brown husky covering, and now they are on the cusp of bloom.

Hurry up Spring!

my snowdrops are up and blooming. Well,yesterday they were,didn't look at them today. The witch hazels are about ready to open too.

Camellias. The freeze caught some of the early openers, but most buds were still closed. They are opening now.

So far no birds. I'm hoping the yellow jackets don't nest in there. I read on his website that we can leave it out all year round but we took it in for the winter and were kind of late putting it out so that could account for why we didn't get any nests. I love those frogs! We got them at an art fair a couple of years ago here in Columbus. I thought I had the artist's card but can't find it at the moment. If I locate it I will post here or send you an e-mail through GW.

I was just last week making a list of the annuals I wanna get again next year because they have made it this far and are still looking good! Angelonia and Torenia are at the top. My first year with a Brug and here in Metro Atlanta I FINALLY have 2 blooms starting - I was quite jealous of a few neighbors who have hundreds of blooms all over several plants, and was thinking maybe it wouldn't bloom this first year. Also my first year with a Hibiscus, and am quite happy with the display on this "Plum Crazy" the past month. My honeysuckle doesn't look too happy, so it goes on the list to trim way back this winter. All my Sage is still going strong, though it's been wetter this year than past. Am readying to overseed the lawn, especially the dog's yard, if I can keep them away with chicken wire long enough to germinate. The Dogwood is starting to turn and the Yoshinos have already had a partial leaf drop, so I'm sad... Fall's not so bad I am NOT a winter person. Except that means Spring comes next!

It should bloom again based on its natural cycle as long as it’s cultural needs (light, water, temperature) are met. A slight temperature drop at night (5to 10 degrees) will help initiate a spike but if the plant isn’t ready it won’t help much. If conditions are right you might see a spike towards the end of the growth cycle, when that new leaf is almost full grown. You should see some roots growing also. Cutting off the old spike wouldn’t make a difference in the new spike.

Ahh, that's when I'm glad I do what I do for a living. It was sunny a good part of the day and I spent it working in the g'house. Yes...........there are things blooming up there. Some big, fat salmon geraniums. Some gerberas are shooting up tangerine and yellow blossoms. Baskets of begonia fuschiodes with pendulous pink blooms. A flat of newly rooted perennial candytuft with blobs of tiny white blooms, and a volunteer or two rose impatien, self-sown and growing in the cracks of the concrete blocks under the benches. There are also already thousands of tiny green shoots, sprouts and leaves in the newly transplanted flats. The leaves on some grape vine cuttings I took last fall are unfurling now, with shades of pink in the buds. This keeps me sane in winter.

not yet, but there are some promising yellow buds on a few daffodils!

I planted an azelia some 20-30 years ago in my front yard and that plant is blooming at 25% at this time. It's an amazing plant. Come rain, shine, draught, frost, digging a sewer trench next to it, it does it's own thing and it keeps blooming at odd times and makes me smile.
The candy tufts are ready to bloom. It will look pretty next to the azelia.

My veggi garden is growing weeds, and I have to weed it out before it "blooms".

I have several containers with Pansies that were planted last fall.They have bloomed all this time but we had a couple of days with 12 degree weather.Unusual for us.Those Pansies looked sort of bad for a few days but have perked up and have bigger blooms than ever.

Wild cyclamen, crocosmia and salvia indigo are blooming, after torrential rains. The rain will stop in about 6 weeks, and we won't see another drop till October. The almond trees bloom like clockwork every year this week, and the wild places are filled with anemone and wild mustard, and many wildflowers. The ground is too wet for planting, and the herb seeds I planted weeks ago have all disappeared; I assume to the hundreds of slugs and snails that decimate everything. I plan to start seeding separate flats soon, and hope to get some sweet pea to plant this weekend. The gauras are still alive and shooting up, along with the greening up of moss rose, and gazinia, which won't bloom for a while yet but at least they're not dead or drowned. The weeds are towering in untended spaces ak URL:
