Ditto! Laptop is where it's at! We have two, and can't imagine ever going back to a desktop. Laptops are waaay more versatile... esp. when paired with a wifi network. Some things I routinely do with my laptop that one could never do with a desktop include:

• I bring it in the kitchen when I cook.

• I can take my laptop out to the hammock with me in the summer.

• When we visit my parents, we bring our laptops with us and we can answer work emails without using their computer, which would be awkward.

• Most laptops have DVD players... Ever wish you could entertain LF on a long car ride, or ever wish you could watch a movie somewhere other than in your living room?

• Laptops take up less room, and it's easier to tidy up your desk when someone is coming over... we put ours in the cabinet for parties and the desk becomes a buffet... this would be a pain in the butt to do if we had a bulky desktop.

• Laptop

  keyboards are easy to use, but if you want a big one, you can always plug a standard keyboard in through a USB port.

There are some pro-desktop reasons, but I suggest they all have "yeah-buts" attached:

• You can get a bigger screen with a desktop (yeah, but who needs that big of a screen anyway).

• Many desktops have more storage capacity (yeah, but you could always use a portable hard drive if you ever managed to fill up a laptop).

• Many desktops can be used with more peripherals because they have more cable ports (yeah, but who buys a laptop without first ensuring it has enough ports to meet their present and probably future needs anyway).

I've never had a laptop overheat, but one of my coworkers did have a desktop overheat because it was bulky and she crammed it in too narrow a space for the fan to work properly. (She's sort of an idiot, so I don't know if this counts.)

I can't imagine a reason in the world that I would ever buy a desktop computer again...

laptop, laptop, laptop. Hated using the desktop.

1. I can use it anywhere (often sit in bed, reading the newspapers, for example)
2. I got used to the keyboard very quickly
3. Better from an environmental point of view: run it on the battery as much as possible (it's good for the battery life to do this too).
4. I can use it anywhere (Sometimes in the kitchen, looking up recipes)
4. Battery packs? Its contained in the unit. No awkward peripherals
5. Did I mention I can use it anywhere?

LAPTOP - the days of the desktop are over! (Incidentally, many companies no longer have desktops, so that their staff can all be truly mobile).

Laptop by far. More versatile by a long shot.

Check out the latest laptops and you will be quite surprised at the range of sizes that they come in.

I have been surveying laptops for some time now. Don't plan on giving up any of my desktops, but need portable computing capabilities for my data gathering, and would just as soon not have to hoof it up to the upstairs office when the DH is on my kitchen puter playing games, and don't think it fair to keep running him off of it. Just put the cable to a router and pick up the signal wherever I end up.

I love my macBook and got an educator/student discount - go play with one at your local Apple store. The experts there answer questions and service the macs on site.

Wow. Laptop hm. Guess I'll have to narrow down makers next. Glitch on the birthday I guess. And when I went to my page to change it, it didn't have GP as a favorite? Oh well. I have the same birthday as Pamven and Donsocal, third day of the third month, with 303 days after it in the year. Can you tell three is my favorite number?

I have both an imac desktop and a little old ibook laptop that I bought used years ago. I take the latter with me whenever I go away, I use it in the kitchen for recipes (saving a lot of paper by not printing the recipe), I've never taken it to bed with me but I do sometimes sit in the living room with it.

I like the desktop because the screen size fits my photography needs, but if it weren't for that I think the laptop would be my choice. I have a mouse for my LT, although once I got used to not using a mouse with it I stopped using it.

I love macs and even though you pay more, in the end you are virus free and crash free. I've had macs for over fifteen years now and neither one of those things has happened to any of them.

You still get more bang for your buck with a desktop, but for convenience, the next one I get will be a laptop.

I have a laptop. I decided to go with the laptop because I can take it with me when I'm working with a teen that I tutor/mentor/whatever you wish to call it. I can take it to the library and hop on their wi-fi without having to wait in line for one of their desk tops.

At home I love it because I can take it from room to room...and I frequently do :) I've even taken it with me on vacation. It's kinda a pain to go through security with, but it was wonderful to have it with me once I got there. I pretended I took it so work could email me if they had to and I could fix any major issues :0)

I bought a larger screen one. I think it's 17 inches, but don't quote me on that. The girl I work with is vision impaired and she needs as large a screen as we can get for when we enlarge text. At home she uses a 24 inch screen with her desk top.

My lap tap is a Sony Vaio, about a year old. The one thing I truly wish is that it had a longer battery life.
