Using a plastic barrel as a Tree pot

brandond

Hey everyone I have some 55 gallon plastic barrels. If I cut one exactly in half could that work as a pot for a dwarf tree. I want to get an asian pear and maybe a plumcot. The barrels measure 34 in high and 22 inches in diameter. So each barrel would make to two pots. Is that wide enough and tall enough to sustain the health of the root system on one of these trees. The advantage for doing this is I can move them into my storage shed on nights of frost during bloom. Let me know if this grand plan will work, brandon
