It's been a while since I've owned one of these so this is kind of a guess at it. Use your better judgement. I think you just insert one side of the toe guard into the frame and carefully flex the guard until the other side will fit in. I can't remenber if the hinge is a metal rod or it the entire guard is plastic but either way I believe it will flex enough without breaking.

I inherited a black & decker M300 lawn mower and was wondering if you had a manual or know anything about attaching the side grass catcher for these models.

It has a plastic flap which raises up & I saw 1 photo online of another brand that attached bag there but I can't figure out how. I've already contacted B&D they were no help. This is the only bag and metal piece I found so far, no manuals in house and no manual online.

B&D apparently sold bag separate as an option. Do you see the notation 846 in diagram? That is it, however every site I go to doesn't have a clear pic or any instructions on how to connect. B&D says discontinued.

If its just some bolts and screws, a loose bag and no frame maybe I can figure something out but right now I don't even see where the screws go, thru what? Inside chute, around it all? I just can't tell & I don't have any experience or want to mess it up.

This is my first time mowing a lawn after firing garden crew who stole plants ( some still in nursery pots bought the day before) and bags of fruit from the yard.

The mower works beautifully but its mulching everything back in now. I'm dealing with a weed problem they created so I'd rather catch and toss so I don't spread it around.

Spring 21 and pin 22 hold on the plastic flap and I have that complete intact. The diagram of 846, I can't tell if that's a true representation of pieces (bolt, screw, nut, washer) or just random drawing.

You see fig 15 shows plastic flipped up and bag on/inside? And the book ends. But I found another diagram and see the piece is wrong. I found some parts for sale but not all. If I can look for the 3 long metal rods and box frame maybe the bag will still fit. There's so much to go thru in garage. I have to get rid of a snowblower since now theres 3.

Just J Hook Pin that attaches the side discharge bagging deflector chute ! The chute is spring loaded to allow it to pivot . The metal frame attaches to the tunnel or chute to provide upper support for the bag . Should be rather straight forward once you locate or can fab up your own metal bag frame .

I understand more now that I see a diagram for the actual unit. (manual was not true at all) I remember seeing some rods in garage but not sure where or when.

I see 2 rods lock together and insert into holes in top part of frame which hold open bag but I cant figure how 3rd fits yet unless some inner loops in bag. The frame is totally necessary and latches on/in chute?

No way I can fab anything metal, back in my day they didnt let girls take shop classes.

But if its arts and crafts maybe I was thinking I can braid some wire clothes hangers into the rod shapes then hot glue Popsicle sticks for frame, sew bag to it and zip-tie on chute? Does that sound workable or a disaster waiting to happen?

yeah, sorry that second link was to a parts diagram so you know what you're looking for. that bag for sale? don't know if that's current. they call rod #5 a bag support, without seeing it it's hard to tell where it hooks to. they probably designed it so it shouldn't be to involved installing the bag. you know the bag # you need, you could wait until 1 comes up. find all your parts and it should go together. another less stressful option would be to get another mower with a bag.

I'm going to flip it over tomorrow and see what's going on. You are right , it can't be that hard. I'm probably over thinking something.

This one works well & has sentimental value. That's why I'm willing to get parts. I was wondering if you used that site before since it let me put in cart, then no load for next step. I'll try again tomorrow.

If and when this burns out maybe I'll replace with modern. Funny how I used to see different styles of robotic ones & now most are gone. I saw guys online make one from RC car with ardunio board, he even posted software and another by combining a mower deck to a motorized wheelchair.

Even though I'm finding this a very relaxing experience, I'll go more automated next time, hopefully it will be a few years.

yeah that's the diagram, and looking at your pics again i don't see that bracket in the tool parts pic? i'm not sure what to say about that wew store? i looked and i couldn't find any thing, contact site couldn't be reached. i say you're going to have to go another route.

1. There are numerous side baggers available for the m300 series that can be adapted to your application . You will have to bite the bullet and spend a few $$ to have some one adapt one for your applicatuon . The original bag and support brackets are discontinued . EBay and a prayer may find you a slightly been used original unit . Black & Decker Model BA-075 bag and frame is a good option @ reasonable price . Often with older mowers especially with sentimental attachment ( No Pun intended ) there unfortunately is no turn key solution . You Reverse Engineer a Fix !

I saw a few Arnold & MTD model bags on ebay but wondered about the chute size. Not sure if things were standard back then or varied by brand. Lowes has a troy built I may try since I can pickup local & return if it doesn't work.

There's still hunting in garage if I ever get the strength. By August I'll have something figured out cause by then I want good grass and leaves to go in compost bin.

I finally saw pic of where rod 5 goes. Thanks ssewalk1. Must be hole in side of deck it goes into one end and just hangs out in space other end supporting bag loop, so wire hanger could work.

Yes very similar to the unit i advised of . The bag and frame of course can be tethered to the mower handle to further stabilize or support it if req,d with the larger bag designs . Yeah the original bag nozzle was an interference or tapered fit within the deck discharge . It may have had the J hook pin for more adequate locking of the plastic venturi nozzle collector to the discharge chute .
