Florida bush with purple flowers

Can somebody please help me find the name of this plant? It is from Sarasota, FL. It is about five feet tall and has small purple flowers. Thank you very much for your help!!!

It's not Malpighia glabra -- I just looked that up, and its leaves are too smooth and round and glossy. I wish I had a photo, but I saw it last fall and didn't have a camera. Now I have seedlings, about an inch tall! Would a photo of those help? I should also mention that the berries are the size of holly berries and very orange, not reddish. I think they were in clusters on the stem.

...it doesn't seem invasive like bamboo which spreads uncontrollably.... Give it time, you'll regret putting it in. Even the "Florida Friendly" that is supposedly sterile will spread uncontrollably by runners instead of seed. AND, bamboo is easy to control as long as you get clumping instead of running varieties...with the clumping varieties just kick the new corms to kill them where you don't want new growth. Tom

Thanks for the replies lazy, mammie, and rox. I think it might be a Veronica of some sort after googling the other plants. I'm still not 100% sure on that though. Here is a up close leaf shot if it helps to confirm it is in fact a sort of Veronica plant.

I'm still guessing a deciduous Magnolia of some sort, based on the closer view. If you get back there where you took the photo and can look at the center of the flower (without petals flopped over it) that would confirm it--google up "magnolia flower" images and compare the structure of the centers.

You can also look for it under the common name Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow. It grows really well in So FL. There's several growing near my house (zone 10). You should be able to find it in most of the local nurseries, probably even the big box stores like Home Depot will stock it down there.
