Scotts Mower won't stay running (Tecumseh)

My mower, a Scotts Turfvac3 mower with a tecumseh engine will not stay running. It will start fine but dies within seconds.

I have replaced the gas, oil, and plug and about to remove/clean the carb but with some advice.

Do I need to pinch the gas line before removing the carb and the metal bowl?

If it's a bowl type carb, don't remove the entire carb.
Pinch the line off.
Remove the Brass Nut holding the bowl on.
That's your main Jet.
Clean the little holes in it with a piece of wire such as found on a loaf of bread.
There MIGHT be a super tiny hole that'll look like a dark speck if clogged.
I'd flush the fuel line for a couple seconds before replacing the bowl.

Yes, pinch the gas line. Then turn the mower on the muffler side, which is opposite of the carburetor side.
Then take out the bolt that holds the fuel bowl onto the carb. Inspect this bolt carefully, and using a fine semi-stiff wire (a wire tie stripped of its paper covering) and carefully poke it into anything that looks like it might be a hole, or one that is a darkish looking spot The finer hole will be the one you want make sure it is clean, but poke the bigger one, too. Then put the bolt to yer lips and blow thru it. then reinstall the bolt, set the machine back up on its wheels, wait 2 minutes, then try to start it. I Betcha it will start and stay running!
Oh, don't forget to un-pinch the fuel line--might help it to start!

ROFLMAO!!! srej; engine running out of gas. Tilt it all the way up on it's wheels with the primer bulb UP. Remove the brass bolt under the fuel bowl of the carburetor. Clean the hollow center of the bolt, the orice in the center of the hollow bolt, the larger through hole acoss it under the bolt head, and most importantly, the tiny bleed at the end of the threads that is on an angle. Strip a wire tie (like on a bread bag) and use the soft steel wire to rod the hole out then blast all holes with carb cleaner spray. Put the bolt back in and be careful on tightening - it strips easily. The mower should run now. If the bolt leaks gas, tighten 1/8 turn at a time just until it stops. On some engines you have to do this every couple of years.

how do you know you are getting fuel to carb ? And advise make anf full model number of tractor and engine. Prolly will need to pull carb - clean/soak thoroughly - clean jets/orifices with small copper wire - blow out wirth air - use a new gasket set. trash in the carb will do what you described.

None of grandma's fresh baked cookies until this gets fixed! Does it seem as though the brake pedal comes all the way back up? Like maybe the pedal hasn't fully returned after disengaging the park brake? If it does at least roll, best guess is maybe the traction belt hopped off a pulley. If it does not actually roll- maybe the brake caliper or caliper arm is stuck. If you lift one rear corner and turn the tire, it shouldn't freewheel. If it does, you may have a missing /damaged wheel key as shown above. Best of luck.
