Toro Super Recycler 20055

Just wanted to post a quick message about my Toro Super Recycler 20055 I recently bought. If anyone is considering this mower, or any of the Toro Super Recyclers, I highly recommend them. The machine is amazing. My old mower was leaving a mohawk effect, even with a sharp blade. The new toro just powers through the lawn, and the personal pace system is amazing. I have two steep hills and the mower just powered right up them like they weren't even there. Mowing with this thing is pure joy and I can't wait for the grass to grow more so that I can mow again!!!! The mower was WELL worth $500. In all honesty, after using it, I'd gladly pay more for it...it's that good.

I'm mulching fescue in Marietta with my 20055. This is my first powered mower and very pleased with the performance. No issues with pulling the mower backward either.

Yes, the Super Bagger mulches fine. It is the same deck used on the 2007 Lawn-Boy 22271 Commercial and the current Toro 22156 Commercial w/Honda engine. It performs fine in all three modes. My version is the LB 22271. I have noticed that it holds the clippings in the housing longer than some others (actually good for re-cutting them) but this can produce a clump at stops/turnarounds. I cut a three-strip wide header all around the mowing area first. This gives the mower time to digest the clippings before coming to a stop/turnaround. I've never had a Super Recycler so I can't say if one would do the same thing on my yard. I can say that the Honda engine runs quieter and smoother than any non-OHC mower engine, and it helps make mowing a little more enjoyable.

You will see that non-engine items such as controls, wheels, adjusters, transmissions and the like will ultimately be longer lived on the Super Recycler. The Super Recycler should mulch and bag somewhat better as well. That is not to say the Recycler is a bad mower - far from it. It's just that the Super Recycler takes quality a step higher. I own a Super Recycler and my next door neighbor owns a Recycler. We're both quite content with our choices.

'What's different about the Super Bagger over the Super Recycler other than the engine and speed?' Everything. It's a different mower that Toro first fielded under the Lawn-Boy marque as the 'Insight' series. The Super Bagger a few years ago was the LB 10791. Toro just changed the paint colors and made it the Super Bagger. Very good mowers, with the top of the line being the commercial version. The Toro is the 22156. The corresponding LB was the 22271. In the above quote, what did you mean by 'speed'?

Does anyone have this particular model? It has the Honda engine. Looked at one at a local dealer. Very light and seems maneuverable. Does the "Super" have a better transmission than the Recycler? Was reading some issues in this forum about grinding and other failures/issues with the Personal Pace system. Also found this particular Honda engine has a timing belt of sorts. Anyone know how often they have to be replaced? Super Recyclers come with 5 year warranty so that sounds somewhat comforting. Also like the aluminum deck. Looks to be about as good as you can get without going commercial... at least from Toro.

I'm mulching with it. I specifically bought it because folks on this board seem to think the super recyclers are the best mulchers. From what I've seen, I'd have to agree. I have a nice healthy, thick KBG lawn and this thing just powers right through it and leaves a beautiful smooth cut. Can't wait to mow again!

Purchased the 20057 and I'm also impressed with the quality of the cut and how it "humps" up the hills. nyc sod, you mentioned some type of problem with pulling the machine backwards. Is this something you heard from others? Sometimes while I'm pulling back it seems like there is a drag on the wheels.

Typical Personal Pace, and it can be aggravating, particularly if you have to pull it back uphill to you. Review the owner's manual about operating the drive - you have to be sure to let it coast forward with the handle all the way up so the wheel clutches release.

I fixed a ladies yard-vac and she gave me her Toro Recycler as payment (job took 20 minutes). It is about 2 years old and needed to have the carb cleaned up and the belt for the self-pace reinstalled but was in superb condition. I do like it although the bagger when you first start cutting it likes to blow grass out until the small holes fill up.
