a moose to pull my sleigh

my handy dandy neighbor got a new plasma cutter and thought we should cut a horse for my old sleigh, but I like moose.

So we (mostly him) cut this moose from and old fuel barrel. He thought I would paint it black but I love the old shabby , rusty and faded green. Never did anything like this before, it was pretty fun, might have to try it again.

.30-06 is effective. Requires that you catch Mr. Moose red handed. Saves on your grocery bills. Note: The Fish & Game people frown on this. 8 foot game fence comes is 330 foot rolls. 1 roll does 100 x 65 feet. You need 11 foot posts for it. One every 16 feet. You can put the posts further apart if you run a high tension steel wire at the top, and hang the fence off of that. Keeps the top from sagging. If you have a tractor, rent a post pounder. That way you can set them much more quickly, and get a better set. Premark your locations to save rental time. Measure your posts and put a mark on them with spray paint so you get consistent depth. Do the corner ones first, run a chunk of baling twine from top to top. You will need to do the usual fence corner bracing. I think you can use a standard 7 foot post for this. Co-op sometimes has sales on game fence amounting to about 20% off. Note: Deer are slinky and will crawl under the fence. Rabbits will burrow under. 30" chicken wire attached 6-8" up the fence then down and flat will discourage this behaviour. Hoof rats don't see worth spit. Flag the fence every few feet with stuff that flaps in the wind. Old grocery bags work well. Deer won't get through if the hit it, but Mr. Moose with a full head of steam can cruise through it. Deer, in theory, can jump an 8 foot fence, but they are uncertain where the top is, so they won't try. Usually. They also won't jump if they can't see their landing point. You can use the game fence as a trellis for squash and cucumbers and the leftover stems will make life less certain for the hoof rats.

I also wanted one pull to a drawer and found that the only pulls I liked, that seemed really well made, were at Restoration Hardware. I have a store local to me and the customer service was fantastic! They were short some of my hardware and called other area stores and had the shortfalls shipped to me for free, which was great b/c online they were backordered for a few weeks! They also will take anything back as a return - opened or not. Very very customer oriented. The knobs and pulls I got felt great to my hand, but some they sold didn't and I was happy to have been able to touch them before making my decision. Hopefully you will have a local retailer where you can touch what you are considering before deciding. Otherwise, buy one as a sample and check it out before buying them all. I also found that I can't find an appliance pull to match my style perfectly - sadly RH doesn't seem to do refrigerator pulls. So, I'm still mulling that one over. I did go with all satin nickel, which matches my faucets (well, they're stainless steel, but close enough). I think it's most important that the pulls/knobs match the hinges (ok, yours might not be exposed - mine are). That's my 2 cents. Have fun! (OH - and be sure to tell your installer that you will have a level out to check the placement of your knobs/pulls on the cabinets! Man, you'd think putting them on level would be a no-brainer!)

Charlie horse, I don't follow your logic at all. Pulls work at least as well as knobs for doors. To some extent they work slightly better because the pull can rotate in your grasp as you swing the door open. Your hand angle doesn't have to change while for a knob the hand has to rotate position a bit to follow the knob angle as the door swings. Not that that is a big deal, but a very tiny advantage to pull. In our kitchen, there are cup pulls for drawers and regular pulls for doors but our family room cabinets have knobs for both. It is still easy to look at the handle and tell which you have because the knobs are at the edge of the doors and centered in the drawers. (And the drawers have slab fronts vs. 5-piece doors.) And what I hate at one mall is they have the letters PULL on the outside of the glass doors. But since the letters are equally visible from the inside side of the door and I'm dyslexic, I walk up to the door from the inside, read "PULL" and it doesn't register that it's backwards and I pull.

Thanks Fun2BHere--I actually tucked in the bottom this morning with the mitered corners and left the sides untucked. I like it that way. I think the one thing I really should have asked is it alright to allow the box spring to show since it is covered and also since it is a sleigh bed style. After I took your advice I realized that I like it showing and by not tucking in the sides it's much easier to get into. Thanks again.

I love your moose! He's perfect, and I'm glad you left him as is. He matches the rusticness(is that a word?) of the sleigh. I just love the whole scene, with the windmill in the background. Can't wait to see what you decide to do for the holidays!!

Over the river and through the woods, to grandmother's house we go. The moose knows the way to carry the sleigh, through the white and drifting snow-oh! I love it! How come my neighbors never get a new plasma cutter... Very pretty setting. What a great sleigh and your moose is fantastic! About how long did it take to cut the moose out? Looking foreward to seeing it done up for Christmas! With snow on it!

I don't know what a plasma cutter is, but I love what it does! That is SOME moose!!! And the sleigh is wonderful with it. Looks great!

I wanted to comment on the picture it's self.....
The moose is fantastic... the sleigh is wonderful....
But the whole over all picture...
with the barn... the trees, the moose and sleigh... is just like a picture on a postcard or a calendar or even just a HOLIDAY CARD>>> or a piece of art hanging on the wall...
I JUST LOVE TO LOOK AT IT !
