How do I identify which species of Walnut a tree is?

This is in Lubbock, Texas... specifically behind Drane Hall at Texas Tech. The tree is hardly majestic, though I think it is probably 28-30' tall. The walnuts have started to drop. Once the husk is taken off, they're anywhere from about 1/2" to 3/4" in diameter. Fairly smooth shell.

I'm hoping that it's either J. microcarpa, or J. major. Those are the Texas Walnut and Arizona walnut respectively. But range alone might also allow it to be J. nigra. I've been looking for seed for the other two, hoping they'd make more suitable rootstock in this part of the country... and so I scooped up a few bags worth of them, and I'll try to find space in the fridge for the next few months to trick them into thinking it winter.

I will probably grow them just for the hell of it even if they end up being J. nigra, but I'd like to confirm what sort of tree this is. Can anyone help? I can provide pictures if I know which details you need to see.
