I'm using Al's mix on a couple dozen citrus -- it's working great. I did have to adjust the volume of Turface (I use all of the various alternatives) for my area. Then when the manufacturer started using a bit smaller and rounder #10 granite component in their bags, it held too much water during winter. So I had to adjust it again. Watering schedules during summer and winter are so extreme you have to find the right balance and expect to water everyday in summer. I'm now trying it for some of my peaches, cherries, and apples (and have identical trees in more typical potting soil amended heavily with bark). My current issue is with fertilizer. The leaves on several of my peaches are yellowing and falling off while very small. Much more than in-ground trees and the other container trees. I'm doing the same "weekly, weakly" fert as my citrus, but now needing to supplement with different NPK ratio ferts since the Foliage Pro 3-1-2 obviously isn't cutting it (I suspected it wouldn't). My point is, as with any new-to-you drastically different soil, expect a learning curve and growth set backs if mistakes are made or adjustments aren't done in time. The gritty mix is everything it claims to be for aeration and drainage (if done correctly) - which is great for the plant. But expect to struggle a bit with fruits that need larger intakes of nutrients at each stage of growth cycle.

Of the ones you mention only strawberry with a plum tree makes any sense to me. The others are too big or require a different soil pH. I've had up to 5 fruit trees in one 15 gallon pot and gotten fruit off all. So you can try anything. But why not get another pot for each one? 10-15 gallons isn't much to grow any of these and expect much fruit. Pots aren't cheap. But having $130 of fruit trees in one pot isn't cheap either. On most of my 5 in one pot, I later moved them to an in-ground spot for more production. This also allows fruit the year of planting in-ground.

I've read the various Al/Tapla (whom I trust) water, soil, fert, and tree posts in the Container forum over the past couple years. He suggests the 3:1:2 ratio as a "general all purpose fert" but never seen the advice deviate when asked for various different types of container plants & trees. For Apricots he suggested the same ratio -- except when fruit bearing to use a little less FP 9-3-6 add more Pro-Tekt to up the K. I know other experienced fruit tree gardeners in this forum may not subscribe to this ratio. It seems the CRF needs supplement for at least the first 30-60 days, so using soluble w/micros may be problematic if large CRF doses were used, too. As Al has commented the smaller window of micro-nutrient toxicity or antagonistic deficiency resulting from mixing two ferts with micros. So wondering what you folks think of this and what you use...

As a child, our front yard was bordered by Surinam Cherries...The only thing with them is that they DO get wormy if not treated, but make the most amazing jellies! I'm also a huge fan of figs. I do have a Loquat tree that I LOVE! I've learned (on here) that they can be pruned not only to allow sun through (I have pineapples growing around mine) but you can do the "bonsai" thing with them as well. I also love my dwarf bananas. I chose RajaPuri because of the compact size. I started with one sick little plant that someone at ACE hardware was throwing out...he said it was dead. Well, no it wasn't, but it WAS almost dead...waterlogged. Six months later, I now have 9 banana trees! I'm really glad to hear about the nuts that grow here. I used to have pecans in Lake Wales, but they never fruited heavily and the goats got most of the ones we could reach anyway! One should always have a citrus tree. They're fantastic for more than just fruit. I keep a pineapple orange (my favorite) and a Meyer Lemon (dwarf) that does beautifully. I also use the rinds as a disinfectant (I use everything for everything, lol) in my kennel, as well as a deodorizer! One thing about figs: They're pollinated by wasps, so if anyone grows them, cut them in half before biting into them...or you'll never eat another one! Just like Surinams, figs are used by the pollinator to lay their eggs.
