A Rustic Bird for the Secret Santa Exchange

This is my Goodwill find last week... a hand-carved, rustic bird on a piece of gnarled wood. I bought him for the Secret Santa Exchange. Isn't he cool?! Thought he would look cool under a covered porch or in a protected area for someone who likes "rustic" treasures. The more I see him, the more I like him...may have to keep my rustic treasure. (Oh, well! I may have to start looking for another gift!!!) LOL Can't wait to see who I get for the Secret Santa Exchange. Bear Hugs! Kirk P.S. Kirk, now you know you HAVE to keep that great bird. He won't be a secret now. LOL. And your love of wood carved animals definitely means he belongs at your place. So back to shopping for whoever you get.

I think he would wonderful on your porch with all the other treasures.

I would love to play. This would be my first time, please count me in. I am usually over in the Clematis forum, Tenn Gardening Forum, and or ponding forum, and or the Junk Forum or the Farming Forum, well i'm everywhere i guess. Some of the things I love are, well I have dairy goats and have had them for over 16 years, So I love anything related to goats, I have a koi garden pond so I love any thing related to my ponding hobbie, I have 23 plus clematis and I love any and all things related to gardening, birds,etc. I also feed hummingbirds and have for many years. I got in to the totem things several years ago and think I bought out several local GW fashion stores and TS and now not so much into sitting around make totems so I have packed up all the glass wear in rubber containers just waiting for someone eles to use. I think you go out to find somethign just to showcase the Secret Santa Exchange! :-) You really do find the best things up in Washington. Ok, seriously Kirk, you really got to STOP showing us the things you find (but it does get us anticiapting it all the more!) I too have been around at the thrift stores and garage sales purposely holding myself back from buying something for my Secret Santa. So we should hear this weekend, eh? Have fun with your finds. Well, I'm late, I'm late, I'm late! Everyone has such wonderful things! I received my box from wonderful Linda, aka 'oldcrafty'. There were so many excellent things, I haven't gotten picts of all of them, so I'll try to list them. I lost a couple items immediately, my daughters have quick hands!!! I mentioned that I love peacocks, and Linda was on a mission!!! I think my favorite things were these green statues, and my Ms Kelly flamigo/peacock! There is also a wonderful birdhouse with sparklies in it, I'm thinking about where they need to go, a gorgeous beaded hanging candle holder, sorry no pict, my oldest took it and ran! Cute little pinecone men, found a home on the window sill, a peacock tray, a fiberoptic lamp (cool!!!) and I know I'm forgetting stuff, but I'm at work and can't go look!!! oh, a couple of magazines filled with gorgeous flowers and neat ideas! I'm sorry, Linda, I can't remember all of my treasures right now, but it was a marvelous box!!! You did an excellent job with your first Secret Santa! NMGirl - I didn't know what those little beady things were either, but I knew you would be able to find a creative use for them! When I saw that nut, I just couldn't pass it up! I didn't know WHO needed it, but I knew someone did, then I got your info and I thought you would definitely be able to make it into something a wee fairy would want to live in :) Hope everyone has a marvelous New Year and I just can't wait to see what new ideas crop up this year!!!

Ha. I think he has the right idea. Show what you bought for secret gift, not secret any more, darn now they all know so will have to keep and find something else. LOL I can see why it would be hard to give this one up tho. Special.

I could be your Secret Santa exchange!! My husband just finished building me a screened porch for our 30th anniversary and that bird would look just great out there!!! Hahahaha! No, it's very pretty. Amazing what you can find in a thrift store, isn't it?

It is a beaut! Is it carved from one piece of wood or two? Amazing what someones artistic fingers can do with Mother Natures help or is it the other way around? No matter

Thank you for the nice comments...it is a beautiful, rustic creation! It is 2 pieces. The bird is attached to the other piece of wood with a tiny dowel. I truly intended it as my Secret Santa gift when I bought it. LOL I should NEVER buy something that I REALLY like! :o) Have you ever bought something for someone else, loved it so much, and then kept it? Ha! I'm a bad boy junker! Bear Hugs! Kirk

So unique, never would find another just like it. Love one-of a-kind handmade items. Makes me wonder who the artist was who put their soul into that object? Beautiful.
