Introducing Jack.

As promised, here is my finished (?) jack-o-lantern BB.

(I think he needs a stem and I'm working on how to do it--- and maybe some curly pipe cleaners for vines.

Funniest part is that you posted this at 0:58 - somebody must have been up all night "playing"!!!
Me, I wake up like 3-4am to "play".

Lauraeli, LOL! I was wondering if anybody would notice my ponies! Merkity, thanks! Yeah, it is Spanish moss. I just chuck it in the sink for a couple of hours when it starts to look dry and that seems to keep it happy. Also I keep it out of direct sun. Thanks, Karin! Your bench isnÃ¢ÂÂt so bad either! Those lights! Caw. The only real artificial lighting I have is a cheap aquarium LED tube over a terrarium. Glass would be fine. Fortyseven makes a good point. Plus before I made my shelf, I used to grow my cuttings in old fish tanks. It worked fine. I even remember once putting a plant under a desk lamp in a dark corner. Definitely no UV there, but the plant didnÃ¢ÂÂt seem to notice! And actually, come to think of it, I think my perspex was UV resistant anywayÃ¢ÂÂ¦ The only problem you might have with glass is its weight. But if you want to make something less big and unwieldy than I did, that probably wouldnÃ¢ÂÂt be an issue. My shelf is narrow and the struts are quite flexible, so it falls over easily when itÃ¢ÂÂs not jammed between the bench and the showerÃ¢ÂÂ¦ if I move house, I think IÃ¢ÂÂll have to bolt it to the wall or something.

I never knew about the conversation board! This thread's easy enough for me to get into. ;) Our SIX Dachshunds- just had a "fall photo shoot". This is Geisha- 100% dachshund, despite that crazy coat (which needs to be trimmed badly). She was a rescue- we're so lucky to have her! This is Jake- he "came with" my husband, but, usually thinks my lap's better. Lynx was my first dog- the beginning of it all. He's a funny little thing- girlier than our girl- which is why this picture (where he looks all combative) cracks me up. :) Woody (Elwood- half of my husband's "Blues Brothers")- is positively full of attitude. He likes to talk back. But, he's as cute as they come- and LOVES "mom". :) Dutch was my #2 puppy- is the only standard sized dachshund in the pack (though on the small end)- and thinks the world is full of friends. He loves everyone and everything. :) And Leo- our first failed foster dog (we foster for FL Dachshund Rescue). He's been with us just over a month now and is making great strides, but, has been terribly neglected in the past and it was immediately apparent to us that we'd never trust another family with his issues and delicate soul. So, he's staying! Phew. They give me gardening challenges- I haven't even started the backyard because my favorite plants thus far have been poisonous, delicate, or otherwise inappropriate for their playground. ;) You've all been a big help, though you probably don't know! My first post was just over a year ago when my front yard was a builder-blank slate. Now, it's one of my favorite places- and I actually have things to post about! Thanks! Chris

LOL Bill, Chelsea is beautiful...She's a Maltese right? She looks like she's a real lady too, my Pomeranian is the same..Nah I didn't take home a truck load of plants, just one more than you..Funny how you planned to just get 2 and ended up with 6, I stopped planning a while back, I only stop when my pockets are empty...:0) Hey Bill, I still can't believe you turned down a blooming J105, that's a beautiful plant, it had been on my wish list for some time, I'm just so happy to finally get it. The buds are going to open any day now...BTW did you notice the big Plummy by the entrance of John's green house? That was the Jackie, I've been dreaming of it ever since I saw it, will definitely get it the next time I come..!!! Your Orotai has an inflo right? So excited for you, please post pics when it blooms. Nicole that's what I keep telling myself too every time I go to John's that changes when I see his plants blooming...I love to go to his nursery most because he usually has plants that are not in the catalog, and in most cases he has only one or two, the named ones he has plenty, so I get wonderful surprises every time I go there. Stephen - please take a lot of photos. I will never have the opportunity to go to one of JJ's events. How sad is that? It would be nice if you could show some of the larger potted plants. Doesn't have to be flowering, I would just like to see plants. For some crazy reason, I love leaf structure. Upright, weepy, curled under, semi-folded.... I know... weird. :) Have fun and buy something pretty!

Thanks guys.. I think he's pretty cool too. I need to get his stem finished before Halloween is over lol
giggles, I had to stay up until after midnight so my hubby could be the first to wish me Happy Birthday. lol

The reason I picked a happy face is because it was the simplest.... its not easy to create intricate designs when dealing with round marbles.
I cut these with my tile nippers and glued the flat side down in order to get them closer together. I wanted the black part to be very dense in color. Then I cut the ones that went around his face to get them tighter too. I just wish I had made his fangs a little more visible... they kinda disappear.
I may have to go back with some sand paper and take down a few sharp edges on the orange pieces too. I found out the hard way how sharp they are.

Wow!! He looks great!! I see where you cut them! I would have thought they would disinagrate & they are hard to hang on to. So sounds like you got cut a few times!!If it will be outside you could use a small wood branch piece for stem as you could whittle the end & glue it in & it would last much better than pipecleaners, then add a curl of green wire (curl aroun d pencil or pen. Use about 20 gauge. May have some around as floral wire or stems came in pkg of several from Michael's or Joanne's. Jan

OMgosh, beck, he is so adorable for the holiday season! Your hard work pd. off! With all the glass/pottery ideas on this forum, I thought right away of a "glass stem"...maybe you can find a dark amber or brown "shot glass" & glue on upside down...along with the twirled wire stuck underneath the glass before you glue (great idea, sunnyca!)

That is so clever, I have never seen the orange marbles. It's just as well, I've already got two BBs ready to start. Let us know what you do for the stem, great work.

I think your pumpkin is so cute!
Did anyone see the latest issue of Family Circle? It has a cute pumpkin cake on the cover. I thought perhaps it was a BB at first. I had to flip thru the magazine to find out who made it. Boy did I feel stupid!
