Confused about which oil to use

Hi, I think I have found the correct pdf manual for my riding mower but I'm still confused about which oil to put in it. Here's a picture from the pdf that tells you about the oil. I don't have the original manual that came with the mower.

Does this mean if I go with either a 5/10w-30 synthetic I should be ok?

I use 10-30 regular in my Kohler .....change 2 times a year. Tractor is 7 years old and engine is stong as ever.

That chart gives the range of ambient temperatures the oil will work in. I prefer #30 for a mower as it is working at full speed under warm dusty conditions although 10W30 is acceptable. The Kohler Command and others with hydraulic valve lifters will do better with multi weight.

Thanks for all the time you've taken to post on my thread as well as all the suggestions, recommendations, and advice you've given. I don't mind attaching the lights onto some sort of fixture like you described. However is it necessary to screw whatever is holding the lights (the fixtures) directly into the shelves? Or can you just set the lights (attached to the fixtures they'll be used with) onto the shelves? I don't mind if I have to attach them to the shelves, but do I have to hang them from the ceiling? Unfortunately doing so from the ceiling really isn't an option. I can attach the fixtures the lights will be on in various other ways, but putting them into the ceiling isn't an option. Are there any alternatives besides hanging the fixture the lights will be on? Do the lights have hung or can they be attached using some other method? Also with the 2nd and 3rd tiers how would I attach the fixtures the lights would go on? Would they just be attached to the shelves?

Hi there! I have heard of some people using peat moss to root, although I don't know anything about this method. I would really advise against potting up in peat moss as it retains too much water. The ideal medium is very well draining - many people use potting soil amended with perlite or pumice, some people have mixes they prefer but the common thing is they are all well draining. Some people even use cactus mix. Peat and straight potting soil retain too much moisture. I would also wet the end of the cutting and dip it in rooting hormone, then put it in your well draining mix with a stake / pebbles / support of some kind, then water it in really well (with Superthrive if you like, if not it's fine too) and then don't water your cutting again until it puts out a few leaves. Keep it warm / heat mat or approx. 75-80 degree soil temp is important. Good luck, let us know how it goes!

I think I know the reason that you may get conflicting information from different stores. You don't have to use a primer if you sand well and are painting over a properly dulled and clean surface. The problem is that a lot of homeowners don't know how to sand. I know it sounds silly, but they just don't do it correctly. So, for them a primer will help because a primer will bond better than a paint to a surface that is not clean and dull. The safe thing to tell a homeowner/DIY'er is to sand and use a primer just in case they don't sand well enough there is some insurance with the primer step. All that said, being that they are cabinets that are old and are currently painted with oil based paint, I would recommend priming no matter what. You don't need to prime over Gardz. Gardz is a primer. The only drawback to using Gardz is that it is clear so using it has no hiding power and will get you no closer to your white topcoat color, but it is still fine to paint right over it. I think I would use an acrylic bonding primer like Zinnser 123 for this project. I'm not too familiar with SW paints, but I assume their 'adhesion primer' is the same basic type of product.

I'd ditch the sectional and go with dueling sofas, which offer more and better seating for hanging out and conversing. Disregard the style in this example - it's about the furniture placement. Sofas and chairs are in the center of the room close to the coffee table (I've seen folks here put their seating back against the wall as if they were furnishing a waiting room and then wonder why their living room is so awkward). End tables provide places for drinks for folks in the chairs, and lamps improve atmosphere. One thing I dislike about sectionals for socializing is that it's hard for people to get in and out of their seats if you have a coffee table, and they have too many people not facing each other. With the above dueling sofa configuration, everyone is facing each other. And since the furniture is close in, you'd still have space for a skinny console/sideboard along the wall for a dry bar. As for the rather intense symmetry in this pic, as long as the sofas match, you're golden. No need to have dueling everything. Different chairs and end tables can add visual interest.

Can I put 4 cycle SAE 30 oil in it? Or can I just grab some 10W 30 motor oil from auto zone?

The manual page pictured seems perfectly clear to me - synthetic oil of 5W30 or 10W30 is suitable for all operating conditions in your machine. Personally I would go with the 10W30 since you get hot summers there. This will also allow use in cold weather without having to change oil.

100% Synthetic Oil is blended for all engines and is a good all-season oil. If you have a B&S, go with B&S lawnmower oil SAE30.

The chart clearly specifies either 5-30 or 10-30 synthetic for a wide range of temperatures. Either one will work just fine. I've noticed that the residue and discoloration that occurs in an unfiltered 4 stroke engine run on regular oil is noticably reduced with synthetic oil. The oil looks remarkably clean at the end of a season.

The chart says recommends SAE 30 oil for temperatures about 40 degrees. It also says using a multi weight non-synthetic oil will cause your engine to burn more oil. I would stay away from 5W-30 unless you use synthetic oil. But since that costs double the price, I would just use SAE 30,
