The stories always make these more fun. lk...I got the idea of the Pam and 0000 steel wool from a friend that was in the Merchant Marine in the Vietnam era. He said they clean the ships with WD 40 and steel wool. Well I hate the WD 40 and it is bad for you to breath. So I looked around and Pam was the next best thing. You could just use cooking oil from the bottle as well. Just keep changing out the steel wool and wiping with paper towels till all the rust is gone. Then clean with a degreaser...I like Awesome from Walmart. Then rinse and dry well and voila..you have a treasure. I got the Mogul bulbs at Lowes. You can order them online but they carried them a couple years ago. They last so far I haven't had to change them and we use the lamps all the time. If there is old wiring make sure and leave it intact and use it to pull the new wiring through...a trick I read and it works great. And you are right is is so easy to do the lamps. annie...when would be a convenient time for us ALL to come shopping in your attic :) ( I am sorta serous ...) haha. WMA...that is a great story. I found a great wide vase at a yard sale..I went to a stained glass store & bought scrap pieces of pretty colors in aquas/blues, sage, etc.- then broke them up & used GOOP and did a mosaic over the entire piece. I bought the tinted grout in a sage to grout it with-turned out really pretty. You could also go outside the box and shingle the piece with pine cones or clam shells. If you like florals..I just saw the prettiest Spring floral printed napkins-decoupaged on the piece would love great! Really cool would be to paint it a pretty pastel or bold color, then spray an adhesive all over it & roll it thru those teenie tiny clear beads (they have no holes in them). The color of the piece would sparkle with the base color showing through!

This is probably a designer one of a kind piece found at 1st Dibs or Kings Lane....Uttermost might have something similar. Personally I think the decor on and below and around the table is the important part....any metal/wood console will work. Silly question but did you seek out Stone Gable american farmhouse living? Googled it and Stone Gable seems to be a blog site...contact the owner of the site and see what you can find out?

@Maureen-- Thanks for the pics! Love the black sashes with the brown overhang in the first pic may go that route in terms of a color combo. The neighbors have a stoop where they were able to keep the stairs, paint them, and install an iron railing. Both houses are eligible to be on the state historic register-- the unit next door was slightly bigger and built by a local merchant with this one gifted to his daughter on her wedding. It has retained some of its very interesting interior features like a servant's back staircase, very unusual and deep baseboard molding and stair banisters, but it was used as a rental for many years.
