Typically, spark plug wires on mower engines are one-piece coming out of the coil, so in order to do it right you would replace the coil/wire. But, it should be simple to cut off the bad part and put a new terminal on it.

Took it to dealer today and he said the same thing. Needed to replace the whole coil to put a new wire on it. He was going to get me a price. I do like the idea of cutting it and putting a new terminal on it though. I used to do that for my cars but did not consider it for the mower. It may not be long enough to do though but it is worth a shot. Thanks

I would try most anything rather than buying a coil I didn't need.

You don't want to replace the coil (261-79401-11) which is $180 and up. Ask your dealer if he can provide the Terminal (X65-91000-10) and the Boot (X65-51000-10). Probably expensive, but at least less than the whole coil.
