Tecumseh LV195 oil recommendation.

I have a feeling as to what the answer will be, but here goes....

My engine owner's manual says to use straight 30 weight oil at temps over 40F -and- that using multigrade will cause higher oil consumption -and- NOT to use any sort of 40 weight oil, multigrade or not.

My local small engine guy says "nonsense", "just use 10W30" or if I want extra protection, to use 15W40 synthetic diesel engine oil. I like the idea of synthetic, and the extra anti wear additives in diesel oil, but am reluctant to do so because the Tecumseh manual clearly states not to use 40 weight oil. Does the small engine guy know something that Tecumseh doesn't?

Would using a "high mileage engine" 10w30 with a higher concentration of anti wear additives help get longer life out of the LV or should i just stick to straight 30 weight at 25 hour intervals like the manual says?
