Hi indigosunshine, I'm so chuffed that I have inspired you! :) The picture below shows where my 'quirky corner' is going to go! (I've been tossing up whether to call it a "Kwirky Korner" or "Cwirky Corner"!!! LOL! We've just pulled out an undercover, free-standing sandpit that I built years ago, (It was a huge wooden box with a ledge/seat around all 4 sides....the kids played in it for hours! Seeing my youngest is now 13 it's high-time for the sandpit to go! LOL!) and I'm going to revamp that space. I'm going to attach 'quirky' things to the little fence on the left. (I built that too! I went to several wood-work courses when my daughter was a baby! LOVED IT!) Just showing off here! LOL! I have a couple of large rusty wrenches, some old door handles....and my 'croc' shoe planters - all 2 of them! I wanted to turn that fence into a huge 'croc' wall but then got distracted with all the other quirky ideas! LOL! I want to make the kettle BBQ that's hiding under some shadecloth, on the left, into a plant container. I want to attach a big clock I got at an auction (for $1!!!!!) to the wall and the 'fire guard' on the right, has no 'legs' so it might go up on one of the walls too. I want some windchimes and sun-catchers too, and a chair and coffee table! As you can see....I have big plans! Now I need the time, energy and "oooomph" to get it done! :) Where are you going to set up your quirky corner? We'll have to be 'quirky corner buddies' and encourage each other! :)

I dropped a bottle a little hard over a piece of rebar and had broken glass all over. I use a dab of adhesive putty now on the end of the rebar before I put a bottle on it. (The same stuff you use to stick pictures, etc to the wall or woodwork--you get it in just about any store in the stationery dept). It works fine, and lasts a long time since the bottle protects it and it never gets wet. Modeling clay or something like it would work too. Sandy

realtorrose, my wonderful stain glass teacher thought this up so no pattern that I know of. All pieces must be foiled & tined before you start 1. Base pieces are 21/2-3 in x a foot or so depending on what size you are making. Do not go all the way to the bottom with glass. Leave about 6-8 as the totem will be inserted into rebar which is in the ground. 2. solder base pieces together & lay tube on back of the base pieces. Solder a piece of glass from one side the base to the tube & then do the other side. So will be sort of a triangle. These MUST BE attached securely as this is what holds the whole thing together. attach in at least 3 places 3. carefully turn the piece over, now the base pieces will be on top. you have to put something under one side to keep it from turning on its side. I used a small piece of wood 4. Now start laying your pieces on top & solder them to base & each other. Connect pieces horizontally & vertically as this makes the piece stronger. You can use nuggets, sun/moon, agates, etc., to make it interesting. I added beads & pieces sticking out front. DO NOT take glass all the way to the bottom as you don't want it to hit the ground. 5.last apply a nugget to top of tube so water can't get down into tube. Hope this helps. Lucky cousin and lucky birds! I agree with marlenee_2008 on the balance of the pieces. The colors are very pretty too - subdued so they don't take away from neighboring flowers but still a pretty neutral tone to be able to stand out on its own. I also like all the different textures. What a great idea to use a glass light shade for the bowl and to use a crystal knob to plug it up! Thanks so much for sharing!
