check out my old bench

This old painters scaffold was given to my husband years ago. It's

gotta be over 75 years old and has been in the garage ever since. I made

a bench out of it for under my avacado tree and use it for meditating.

One of the tree branches grew along the ground sideways and I like it that way
so I left it in the path.

That's a great idea. It makes a wonderful bench. Gosh I had one of those must have been that old too, it was my dads, it was still in the garage when I sold the house, didn't think I'd be needing any scaffolding. Never thought about making a bench out of it. Now I wish I had it because I'd have a cool bench like yours under my pine tree this afternoon. Love your meditation spot. Envy your avocado tree. Ahhh... southern CA....

GW has been shortening the length of their retained back posts. I had not known that. Still, no matter which GW forum one is on [and this happens on all of them], it would be nice for people to at least look through the FAQ first. [BTW, for any new folks, it's not that we don't WANT to answer questions, but it does get awful 'old' to repeated answer the same ones when the info is already there if a bit of research is done.] Now on the flip side Kev, if I did a search and received "872" threads, I have to admit ... I would not sit there and try to read throught them all first. By the time I finished that my hypothetical "phal" would have died. However that is also where folks would hopefully figure out that using more than one key word would narrow their search down considerably. Happy growing!

Thanks Josh. Update: This past week I have had an old raccoon move into my backyard, or at least making it a stop on its nightly foray. It tore apart my bog looking for something to eat! Plus it tore apart a great looking pot of sphagnum. The sphagnum will survive and has been moved into the wired enclosed Selaginella bench along with a tray of moss the critter simply rolled up like a carpet! Looks like I will be trying to get some sphagnum off of eBay when the time comes. I have moved the bog nearer my house and covered it with hardware cloth. Hopefully that will discourage the beast.

skitter_2009, Thanks for letting me know that your gorgeous floors are Tokto Laminate Tropical Gingerwood. It is amazing looking that it looks so real and gorgeous. It seems that you have to buy a minimum amount (a Pallet) so I am wondering how many square feet are in a Pallet? I may call Build Direct and ask for a sample. Some laminates are so well made and really are gorgeous in the pictures I am seeing. I really love the changes you have made especially with the plates on the wall above the beautiful cabinets with the updated beautiful black hardware, the adorable "cookie jars" with the matching towel over the oven handle that looks so pretty, the beautiful island, the beautiful counters, the beautiful faucet, and the beautiful lamp over your table. I wish I had a window in my kitchen. The blinds on the window fit right in with your kitchen's new look. I am saving your kitchen to give me ideas when I am ready to update my kitchen since I have only updated my refrigerator so far but the cabinets have to be refaced or replaced but I can't do that now until I replace all the floors in my home first and the appliances that are all slowly falling apart but amazingly lasted so many years.

Glad you enjoyed looking at the house. I took some pics of the exteriors of other houses on the same street (see below). I love driving down this street! The house that's for sale is on a 12,000 ft. lot (which is large for the city). It is not uncommon to find houses in Providence where the square footage of the house is larger than the square footage of the land. This street is located on the East Side of Providence (not to be confused with the separate city of East Providence). The East Side is where you will find the better homes of Providence, Brown University, Rhode Island School of Design, and several private prep schools. Property taxes in Providence are very high; the house for sale has annual taxes of $10,000. Also, if you have kids, you had better be able to afford to send them to one of the private schools. Trust me, you wouldn't want to send your kids to the Providence public schools. Amysrq - where in New England are you thinking of moving to? I used to live in Mass., so I could give you some info. on RI and MA. I know there's others on this forum from N.E. that could probably provide you with info. BTW, one of the photos below looks like there's bodies on the steps (they're just Halloween decorations!).

Your garden is BEAU-TA-MUS!! Looks like something out of a gardening magazine. I would love to see more pics!!!
Love the bench, that was a great idea for a T2T project. It looks wonderful in your garden and the tree branch on the ground is just too cool! I really like that kind of unusual stuff, glad you kept it.

Im with the others, it looks lovely. I am especially envious of avacados in the yard, when I have to pay about $2 each for them. Im just having some pangs of envy. Oh well, at least I can go to the cider mill on these beautiful fall days.

Love it all - the bench, the tree branch, the rocks, the plants. It would be so enjoyable to rake designs in the sand. Looks like a very restful place. TFS

Love how you repurposed the scaffolding! It does make a wonderful bench. I also like that you left the weird branch the way it is. It makes a great conversation piece!

Just imagine how many old scaffolds ended up in landfills, when they could have been re-purposed like this. What a beautiful garden bench, and the avocado tree is awesome!!! You have a VERY SPECIAL garden there, Sunnie, thank you for sharing with us! Beautiful pic. ~tenderlee

Wow, the bench is wonderful, but that tree is a show stopper, it looks like a big ole snake crawling across the path. How old is the tree?

thanks for all your kind words....my path is decomposed granite. the path is edged with rocks that I picked up here and there, till I finally had enough..to do around the whole garden.
the tree is about 18 years old,and gives lots of Avacado's.

Very creative! What a lovely setting. Lucky you to have an avacado tree. They wouldn't grow here in Colo.I don't think. Maybe in a green house. TFS.
