Keeping the Honda HR214 but need advice
Comments (1)I have/had a similar problem with my 'new' 216 - the rear wheels don't turn backwards. After a bit of use it seems to be freeing up to the point where I am not bothered by it. Maybe you will have similar luck? If not, you may need a new tranny. The single-speeds are pretty cheap around $50 or so....See MoreHonda HR214 engine dies when blade is engaged ...
Comments (10)Change out your spark plug. Have seen similar issues with Kawasaki engines. Would run great until you put it under load (engage the clutch) and then it would stall. Seems like it's way too simple but I've cleaned carb's, reset valve lash, and checked flywheel keys on machoines that just wanted a fresh plug. Good Luck P.S. Make sure the new plug is gapped correctly....See MoreNeed help on the pull start of an Honda HR214.
Comments (1)The arm you mention is what grabs the flywheel to turn it. Was there two arms originally? Most recoil starters have two arms. When you rewound the rope, did you also rewind the pulley/spring inside the housing? Maybe the spring is broken too. With my short experience with Honda engines and mowers, the only thing i can think of to use them for is boat anchors! JMHO! Rusty...See MoreWhat year(S) did Honda produce the HR214SX
Comments (9)My HR214SX was purchased new in 1983 for $385-- a lot of money for a walk-behind lawnmower at that time. It has been a loyal yard servant ever since. My secret(?) to keeping the engine a "first-pull every Spring" starter, is to make sure you turn off the fuel petcock after every mowing, and let the engine die on its own. This, as well as draining the tank at the end of the season, keeps the carb clean with no varnish buildup. I always use fresh gas every season, and never fill up the gas can with more than a gallon at a time. Fuel varnish is a killer to carbs. I'm now looking at the HRX217HXA to replace my reliable steed because I do more mulching than bagging. A review from some customer would be helpful....See More1saxman
