My First Plate Flowers

With the continuing drought and high heat here in Texas I decided to give this a try to at least have something pretty to look at. Please let me know if I am on the right path making these.

I had gotten 2 or 3 how did I attatch questions. I was browsing around the plumbing department in Home Depot and tried this. I just glued a plumbing elbow to the back of the plate and slid it right on the spindle. This way I can bring it in to wash in the winter too.(Only .63)

Your plates are very lovely...& like the other GJers, your Rose plate is stunning! Hope you put it in a very special place in your gardens or sunroom/porch. Hi bebob, Thank you for the compliment =) I've come a long way since those flowers.....continuing to create new flowers both for the outdoors and currently indoors as well....also branched out to mushrooms and just finished some glass robots today (per special request). To answer your question: Yes, I am using rebar....I tried the spoon method, but couldn't get the flattened spoons to adhere well enough no matter what kind of adhesive I used. I also tried the plumbing connectors, but again, just didn't feel confident in how they were adhering. So, I decided that something hard to drill into and adhere onto the back might be best for me....thought about cutting round pieces of 2x4, but realized they wouldn't hold up in the rain. The only other thing I could think of was hard rubber....thought about recycled tires, but didn't think they would be thick enough and terribly difficult to cut into the proper shape...I settled on a hockey puck and drill into it using a paddle bit and adhere that onto the back. By the way, I'm not upset by your question and I doubt anyone else would be either....I have found everyone on this forum to be very helpful and friendly and always willing to share ideas etc. =) Hope you're having a good weekend as well!!! I especially like the bottom row! The only thing I would like to see more color on the square plate 1 it might just be the pic but it looks mostly clear or light green in center. I'd glue on some 1/2 glass marbles or paint with glass paint some scrolls or little flowers to jazz it up a little!! Like the stems too! TFS Jan

Did you drill or glue your plates?

We were in drought here for several years. Made up for it this summer, though, and I'm thankful for that, but I believe it's rained every single day for 3 months. Just been too wet and hot to do much outdoors. Then with all the rain comes all the mosquitos. Getting a touch of cabin fever (even though there's always plenty to do inside, I'm used to being able to play outside more :) but fall is comming, in fact it's here today, isn't it. Anyway...

Thanks for sharing, it's fun to see what others are up to.

Thank you all for the encouraging words. I am officially addicted. Just got back from Goodwill with more plates. My plates are drilled. I have a rubber washer between layers. The stem is painted PVC pipe.I slip it over rebar so it is sturdy. I did find out some of the glass plates must be tempered glass as they shattered when drilled. Not sure how you can tell before hand. I also think I am going to use drawer pulls for centers on these new ones. Will post when done.
