John Deere 14SC Transmission

Need a transmission for a JD 14SC. Mine gave up and the mower is to heavy to push. Any leads on where to find one cheaper than the $200 the dealer wants. Dont want to retire this good mower.

you can use a 14sb trans. many dead ones out there with good trans

Thank you for the information. Any ideas on where to find one? Saw one on ebay today. Do I need to try to match any numbers up to my existing one or are they all the same?

I think you are saying that you see the trans pulley quit turning when you release the bail- but you still can't pull back the unit? For each wheel there is a drive clutch that you can carefully disassemble, lay everything out as it goes back together and clean/ lube them. Then your wheels should release.

It sounds like one of the pinion gears is backwards. Do you hear clicks from both sides when you pull backwards with the transmission not engaged? The gears go on the axle with the open side facing the same direction. If one is reversed the wheel on the "wrong" side will lock in place and not spin when pulled backwards and you will hear clicks from that side when pushing it forward. Is the 14SB / 14SC the same as a JX75? I found a JX75 on ebay but now am concerned that it may be different.

I have a JD JX75 5 speed transmission. The problem I am having is a delay before the clutch engages after pulling the engaging bar. I have adjusted the cable to make the lever push the clutch lever, but it often does not push it into place to the full extent. The transmission will suddenly engage after a short delay or movement of the wheels. The disengaging spring is in place and working so I am not having a disengaging problem.
What could be holding or causing the clutch lever from smoothly moving into place?
