I'm finally cracking open my 'treasure chest'

What's in my treasure chest ????????????

I got these from Craig's list a year ago . I was on cloud 9 when I found these . I tucked them carefully away - and just KNEW someday it would be the right time to get them out and work on them.

You would think I had the Hope Diamond ........... LOL ..... but this is better !! NOW ---- I'm ready to create with them !!

For $15 ......

2 dozen bowling pins !!! LOL

Only people like us would be excited about it ~ ROFL !!

Now comes the challenge of what to make . I googled Bowling Pin crafts ... I think Google laughed at my request ... no help there !

I Still remember the garden sparkler out of the bowling pin ...I've seen them mosaiced ....any other ideas you can think of ?

I bet this could be a big part of Redneck Chic ! LOL

Might be cute painted like Mr. & Mrs. Santa or snowman. Somewhere on web I saw 1 painted with favorite team & logo- such as yellow & black, blue & gold, red & white, etc. That's about all I can think of, you could have whole choir with all you've got!! Have fun! Jan

O.K. I'll confess I'm a "lurker" on this board... I love all those neat - o ideas that you folks come up with... The pictures are really great to see too.
So here is my idea for the bowling pins....
I would organize them on the ground around a bowling ball of all things... like the petals of a flower (of course you'd half to bury the bowling ball 1/2 way down a bit..). You could maybe mosaic the BB / and the (pins) petals if desired or paint or whatever you decide to do...Anyhow anytime you like you can move it around the yard to different times of the year... kind of like yard art, on Redneck steroids LoL Just my 2 cents worth... Ok I'll sidle back into the shadows now, and go back to lurking away..

Deb, I am looking at my asters. A few are good looking top to bottom and I cut them back a few times and they stayed upright and compact and the foliage is great. I bought them locally as a container filler and haven't a name to offer. But I do have another one that I also cut back, but it still got pretty tall and is flopping and the bottom is sparse...haven't gotten close enough to see if the foliage is 'crispy'. But I keep looking at it and thinking about what I could do to make them look better next year, because I do like the top. Your approach sounds like it is working out well. Would love to see a photo! :-)

Wanton: The agaves were A. americana. They were pups from parent plants grown on the campus of my school. They were just gonna get thrown away, so I collected them up to give to anyone who wanted them. I did not realize they were water hogs, though. I'd be willing to bet, then, that's what I did wrong - not enough water. Thanks so much for that list and link. I'll definitely have to check that out. As to my losses, I had been working really hard to try and keep them out of direct sunlight. When I noticed that the sun's orientation in the sky was shifting as we progressed closer to the end of summer, it was getting harder and harder to keep the plants out of direct sun, so I put up a sun screen curtain thingy. It's certainly helped to keep the front stoop cooler; but by the time I put it up, most of the damage had already been done. I think they just weren't meant to be in that kind of heat, especially with me freaking out over the heat and overwatering them. When I eventually replace those plants, I'll be sure to keep them indoors during the summer heat and winter cold. Stush: Yay, the agaves are looking great! I'm so happy they're doing well for you. Alas, I lost the one you sent me a while back. The only agave I have left is this one, bought at a nursery. I do still have that monstrose you sent, and it seems to be doing just fine. Oh wow, bless your heart! I'm cringing while looking at those pics knowing how hard that must be to work with. Yes, a big gold star for you for perservering! My mother recently gave me some tops that she had pieced and some still in block stage. Now she has always been my inspiration since I can remember, but the stuff she gave me to finish were terribly pieced. She will be 75 next week and had a major stroke back in '98. I think these were some that she worked on after the stroke. Nothing matches up at all which is very unusual for her. Granted I didn't see any "bras", LOL! She told me I could have them IF I wanted to finish them. She didn't want them back. It is interesting to see her seams in the blocks. They are like half an inch! She never used a rotary cutter either, always scissors. I don't know if I will finish them or not, but I feel like I have a duty to finish them for her. She also gave me a shoe box of scraps but didn't know what quilt it came from and I looked inside and it was scraps from my first quilt! The quilt she made for my 4 year old daughter was actually made many years before she was born and the last quilt she completed before her stroke. The piecing is beautiful and so is the handquilting. Allison, I love your laundry room! I wish I had a bigger laundry room but just having one across from my bedroom and not in a tiny little closet and not having to go to the laundry mat is one of the nice features that sold me on the townhouse I bought a little less than 11 years ago. Where are your hampers? I just love your taste of knowing where everything should be in a room to create rooms with both class and beauty. I just bought two white wicker hampers with two compartments at Fran's Wicker & Rattan Furniture Store and were amazed at the just about no smell. They have velcro cotton drawstring bags inside and are very well sealed. I aired them out for a week so they will have no smell at all. I am glad I went with such pretty hampers that were reasonably priced for the quality. Now I have to take the suggestions I got from others on making the rest of the room nice when I have time.

I have a case too!! I mosaiced some and painted some and glued a pretty plate on it for a butterfly waterer!

I'd mosaic or decoupage them (since I can't paint a lick) and then set them up in the yard with a mosaiced/decoupaged bowling ball nearby. The bowling pin sparklers were done by twosistersmosaic.com. Below is the link to the page featuring the bowling pin sparklers.

I like the idea of mosaicing the pins, setting them up with a mosaic ball close by, or depending on how big your yard is, make them usable pins with balls for lawn bowling, they could still be painted, decoupaged or what ever (probably NOT mosaiced) and let everyone have fun bowling!!! Bev

I love what has been shown here as suggestions. I can't wait to see what you do. (And I'm following red neck chic now. Cool blog.)
If you decoupage it may not last outside (even on a covered porch)UNLESS you use lazertran transfer paper to make decals and then apply them with oil based varnish. I've just learned more about this technique and will report more when I've experimented. Just wanted to mention it since decoupage was brought up as a possibility.
