What a bummer garden potter! So I guess the test would be does it set up and dry clear within a reasonable amount of time. I'll stick one of my chipped globs onto some true junk and see how it goes. I just hate to waste anything. I've heard of stuff being spoiled that was not out of date too, so it must depend on other factors too. Thanks. kathy

Hi Butterflylion! Welcome to the Garden Junk site. There is a website: thistothat.com that you can type in what you are gluing and it will give you the best type glue to use. From my experience with Silicone II, it works best on glass to glass or glass to plastic or ceramic. I use it when I'm making totems. Hopefully, some of our other members will be able to help as well, but be sure to check out the website...it's pretty informative.

Thank you for reassuring me. There's special silicone for windows and doors? Huh. Mine just says (GE logo on top) Silicone II 100% Silicone sealant And on the side it says "Household Glue". Also, I took the tube out in bright sunlight and found a date stamped at one end: "Use By 05/09" (well fizzle.) On the one hand, it's only August, the stuff came from inside a store rather than hanging on a rack outside, so perhaps it's not too old. OTOH, it is August, and there's no telling how old the stuff actually is. *sigh* I'm going out of town tomorrow for a couple of days, and these will sit undisturbed in the now tidy spare bedroom until I return to allow the "household glue" to set up. At that point, I guess I'll know whether to take them apart and try again with new glue, or start looking for nifty places to put them outside. For now, here they are: I'm glad y'all asked for pictures, as I can see the stack on the left is leaning and will have to be redone. I think it needs something wider/heavier as the second piece from the bottom. I'll have to keep my eyes open for a suitable goody at yard sales this weekend. ;^)

Thanks, all! Thinset, it shall be. Doing it on mesh will make my life much easier, so I can glue inside while my husband watches TV. I hadn't planned to tumble the glass before gluing. I have a grinder, and would do a quick grind of each piece before I glue. However, if there's a reason that tumbling would be better, I'm all ears. I'm definitely still learning! I am SO anxious to get started, but we're working on renovating a rental property right now, so I have to spend my free time doing boring stuff like painting the walls. LOL
