Which Electric mower should I buy?
Comments (1)"I'm looking for an electric mower for my small, .2 acre yard. It would be nice to have a cordless mower, but I am not sure if its worth the extra cost and hassle of dealing with batteries since I have such a small yard. " "Questions: 1. Will the corded 12 amp mowers like the Black and Decker MM575 and MM875 offer better cutting performance vs. the CMM1200 cordless mower? " Likely so because it uses a more powerful motor. "2. Why is the larger MM875 cheaper on Amazon than the MM575? Am I missing something, or are these two almost identical except the 1 inch larger deck on the 875? " The exception you mentioned is not trivial. "3. Why are the Neutons so much more expensive than other cordless brands? Are they that much better? " They do an excellent job of marketing their lawn mower....See MoreElectric vs. Gas
Comments (26)These folks who want to mow their grass, using an electric lawn mower, must be drinking something besides beer or pop! One evening, whilst driving around the neighbor-hoods, i espied a large bundle of orange extension cord, in the garbage pile, along with a nice electric lawn mower! Took it all home. The ends of the cords had been cut, ostensibly by a mower blade, and the mower itself had been kissed by a sledge hammer! OOOFF! Well, some store bought extension cord male and female plugs fixed the cords, and the electric mower still did its job of shortening extension cords! Well, not for me-I set it out on my garbage night, and it was gonzo by dawn!...See MoreElectric Heat Vs Gas Heat
Comments (4)I'll post a calculator I found below, but based on the figures you posted, it would cost $31 per million btus for electric resistance heating ( your electric furnace option), $15.50 for the same amount of heat using a heat pump, or $10.50 for natural gas. The wrinkle with using natural gas is that to fully take advantage of the available savings, you would want a gas water heater, clothes dryer, and probably a gas stove - The water heater would require a chimney, and buying a houseful of appliances doesn't sound like an option for you - keep in mind, all of those appliances would require gas pipe inside the house as well, which wouldn't be included in your $850 cost to get the gas to the house. Plus, you would likely incur permit and inspection fees for a changeover. Based on what you've posted, In your situation, I'd probably get a top-shelf heat pump for heating and cooling the house, and possibly a heat-pump water heater as well. I've posted a link below so you can run your own numbers Here is a link that might be useful: energy cost comparator - requires microsoft excel...See MoreElectric push mower vs Gas mower self propelled
Comments (6)We have both an electric and a gas mower. I think the electric is great for the flat areas PLUS because it's quiet, I can run it before the neighborhood's 10 a.m. weekend no-mowing convention (it's not a "law" but we do talk about those early risers) or later in the evening (after I hear we're in for a storm overnight or the next day). An electric is too much work for our whole yard because the lawn slopes too much. Downhill is just fine but our gas mower is self-propelling and gets back uphill without too much extra work from me. I would guess that in Florida, your grass grows like crazy all the time. Maybe you could just count your mowing as your main exercise and do 20 minutes every day with an electric mower. The gas mower needs more maintenance than the electric, and the gas does smellwhich might be even stronger in your weather. If you do get a gas machine, and start smelling it inside the house, don't hesitate to replace the gasket around the door That said, with the better and better (longer lasting and stronger) batteries available every year, we're in for a battery (no-cord) electric if/when ours bites the dust. Hey! since you're no longer paying a service, you might look into buying one of those lawn mowing robots. I've seen them--they are like that vac'ing robot you can find on youtube riding cats around the house. I can just see one zipping around, covered with little lizards going for a joy ride!...See Moreplmn
