Coming out of lurking thanks to the totem addiction

Hello everyone. I've been lurking GW for well over a year enjoying everyones creativity and learning so much. A friend who is here somewhere started it with the 'toad abode' last year for my frogs and it's been ongoing from there. LOL

Now I've gotton caught up in the totem bug and oiii is it addicting.

With 2 male humans (DH & my 1 teenage son) and 3 spoiled little boy pugs who get to keep 'their' space to play, I'm kind of outnumbered but have taken over what little was left for my own in the form of flower gardens, totems, 2 small ponds,rocks as well as my scrapbooking hobby and other crafty stuff. LOL

I hope to 'fit in' here and have a wonderful time with people who share the same enjoyments I do in lieu of combatting the eye rolling males around here when I drag out yet another project. LOL Good thing they love me I suppose.

*big smile* . My family is almost the same as yours .. only the teenage son has grown up & we're down from 3 dogs to two. I L-O-V-E those little puggers .... lucky you for having them ! Oh -- please don't lurk anymore - we're all an inspiration to each other . We're in this addiction together !! LOL

PS .... Love your totem ... I guarantee - this will be the first of MANY ! LOL

I feel very lucky to have my fur boys. Certainly a major part of my life. Many many of the "is this safe for the boys ??s" before we do anything around here.
Somehow, I truly believe what you said about the MANY totems LOL. I've finished 3 so far and the ambition to start the next one is surely there.

Hi Barnbatt! Welcome! And, I am SOOO jealous that you could go to the giant yardsale! I would love to go there sometime--it's just so far away for me in VA. For gluing the totems, I think most people use GE Silicone II type glue. You can buy it at Lowe's or Home Depot in the caulking section. It comes in two sizes--large to be used with a caulking gun or a smaller tube to use by hand. As far as drilling holes in the glass, I use a glass bit and an electric drill. I've only tried to drill small holes for glass plate flowers, so I don't know how easy a large hole would be to drill. You might want to try getting some candle cups--like the kind Florists use in arrangements or using a votive that comes in it's own cup. Good luck and again, welcome to the junkyard! :-) Marlene

I like them both! I love that pretty green teapot in the top one and the more sophisticated look of the black and white totem. It's a good thing I don't come to one of your sales because I'd have a hard time deciding which totem to buy! lol Btw, I NEVER get tired of seeing totems!

Fantastic! If I don't go with white cabs that is exactly the color scheme and look I want. Come to CA and do mine! Absolutely beautiful. I love everything and your pendants are so different. Unless I missed it up thread, can you please provide a style # or name and the source for those and your drum lighting fixture? I'd love to see how those pendants look turned on. So cool. Also regarding your layout, can you provide more info? Sounds like you knocked out some walls to make one room, but I'm having difficulty visualizing what was where. Can you elaborate and were the walls removed load bearing? I ask because we have a similar situation. Kitchen with a nook to one side that's all windows and both seperated from the family room by a half wall at the sink and "behind" the kitchen a seperate small dining room we never use. I'd love a more open floorplan and great room effect like yours, but we have lots of structural issues and still trying to decide if it's doable. So I'm just trying to visualize your before and after layout. That info would be helpful if you're willing to share. Thanks! Again, outstanding kitchen!!

Welcome to the KT Gale. I'm from Michigan, outside the Flint area and have lived here almost all my life. I am 65 and my hubby is 61. I have 3 children, 10 grandchildren, including 2 sets of identical twin girls. They are sisters and are 21 years apart. They also have a 15 year old sister. Hope to hear from you quite a bit. Seems like most people on here have pets, do you? I have 2 dogs and a cat. I would love to have a chihuahua, but hubby says "absolutely NOT!" My philosohy is "never say never".

Your totems are lovely! I especially like the green one. Just remember if you are going to place the pieces in such a way that they will hold water, don't leave them out past freezing time!

ooohhh yes ! The totems are beautiful ! But as the above post said -- remember - when you have a piece that will collect water ... be careful . I learned to turn all my pieces upside down so the water won't pool or collect in them. It'll run off.

****** As for your babies ( yes - they are "the boys" and they are especially the "babies" !!! ) I have an email friend in England that has 3 pugs ..... when we write , we call them "the boys" ...LOL You can't help but love a pug .

Sounds like you have a wonderful life .....DH .....a son .. a craft addiction ....and PUGS !!

The freezing reminder is a good one indeed though I won't have that worry as we get some pretty wicked ice storms here from time to time so everything decorative that goes out in the gardens has to be lovingly packed away and toted to the shed for the winter at the end of the season :(. Makes spring fun though to see everything coming back together as the plants pop up and the decor goes out.

Welcome, milosmom, very nice totems! You definitely fit in very well here with your "love of making totems". I try to avoid calling it an Add_ct_on! LOL However I just can't seem to stop making these things. I know you'll enjoy this hobby as much as the rest of us do.

Be careful, you may soon be making glass flowers, glass bottle bugs, and whatever other charming things you see here. It's all decorative and quite harmless. And lots of fun.

What pretty totems! I like the green and white. Those two colors always seem so fresh together. I bet they both really sparkle when the sun hits them. Keep the totems coming and we will keep applauding them! lol! Since I can only garden on my balcony, I don't have space for totems. I keep trying to come up with mini-totems that can be staked in pots but my pots are almost overflowing with gnomes, harmless bugs and fairies now. So like I said in another post, I am living vicariously through you totem addicts. lol! So keep 'em coming!

It's always been opposite at our house always had "Girls"
Dad was out numbered! Only have one Girl now. Very spoiled Border Collie.

Welcome to the junkyard Milo! We're very happy to have you come out of lurkdom and join us! Your totems are wonderful! It's so nice to have another junkie with us! I am totally addicted to them as well....love the thrill of the hunt for pieces and creating them! They add that extra sparkle to the garden!
