Update on orchard and what to do for winter,

Hello all,

This is an update to the 72 apple trees post earlier this year. We had a very busy past few months. Learning about the orchard takes a lot of work! We spent most of our time cleaning all the fallen apples. The trees will definitely need to be pruned we had a lot of small not well developed fruit. It has been so much fun to see the cylcle for a full year.

So now we're back to October and we have no idea what to do with the orchard at this time. The orchard is about 15-20 yrs old:

Do we prune? How much in the Fall, do we wait for the Spring?

There are about 6 trees that are way too tall, can we have these topped? Will we still have fruit next year?

I have aged compost, when is the best time to add to the soil under the trees, Fall or Spring? Or is this even needed?

It's been fun reading the forum and learning along. Thanks for all the great advice.
