Snapper riding mower 10.5 Briggs and stratton

Mowed last week ran just fine .This week got on it,seem like it was cutting out or missing but running.I cleaned the air filter added oil squeezed out excess,than tried again no better still missing.added fresh spark plug no better.checked the float on carb nothing, here were it gets interesting drain fuel out which was fresh put in new wont start? I noticed that the tube from the carb that runs into the engine was leaking put a hose clamp on that still leaking. i dont know where this hose goes to maybe a fuel Filter? I also notice the carb is half full of gas I dont think thats right.has anyone ran into this before what did i do wrong?Model #28108BE snapper. there is another #15030391

Model is 255707? type 012801? code 90100431? I was thinking about this last night. When I took the screw out of the gas float i didnt think it had any other purpose other than draining gas out,I think thats why the carb if filling up with gas. at what point how do you know if the screw is in far enough? still not running I thought i would wait til monday to get the rubber tube that goes from the carb into the engine so i can put gas back into it without it leaking.any help would be great. I know very little about engines.

Hopefully the engine failure analysis will come out in your favor. This is a definite science. Yet the rep has the ability to make their decision towards your side if you prove a good earnest case if the physical evidence says- yes, there is dirt ingestion, yes, the guys a filter isn't new- but was a BS part and should have been doing the job and so on. The reps mission is NOT to deny your claim. If dirt ingestion is due to the inability for the housing to seal, that would be good news with this engine. You wouldn't be the only one who has had that issue if that what it comes back as. I must say that blowing through a paper element is not acceptable as the pressure can tear the media and compromise the filter. Be sure to post how things come out. Bring records of any kind to support your claim of maintenance. Marks on the calender, scribbles on the back of the manual- it all backs your claims.

There's your problem. The cam is in the wrong part of the engine... I assume an OHV? Has the valve lash been set properly? It is possible that there is a loose guide in the head or ..

With no more specific information than that (no year model, no model number, whether a manual shift or hydrostatic transmission) I can only suggest that you look to see if the ground drive belt has jumped off a pulley or broken.

The older snapper riders were very sparse in the wiring dep't. I had to change the engine in mine. The ignition wire went thru the ignition switch and acted as a ground to make the engine stop. If that wire got the insulation worn off, or punctured, it would short out and stop the engine. Check under the lid of the box down at the forward engine area, under the seat. Right side. As near as I can remember, mine was new back around when they first came into use. I have replaced the engine, once. The main drive wheel, once. The battery a lot. Most of those engines were interchangeable. Just had to measure the face of the cast aluminum wheel,on the crankshaft, under the engine, to get the right spacing. This from the face of the wheel to a flat spot on the bottom of the engine casting. Been a long time to remember, but I think it was 3 7/8 inches. Might be wrong on that. Somebody will know.

Model is 255707-012801 anyway the breather tube is what I have been refering to as rubber hose going into the engine from the carb,Would this make it miss the way it was?I think when I took off the gas float and removed the valve high speed part# 396568 is why the carb was half full of gas and leaking thru the breather tube.How far do you screw in the high speed valve? what damage did I do when the gas was going thru the breather tube?

Try screwing the high speed screw in a turn or 2 and it may lean out and run smoother. The air filter should be squeezed in a dry rag.You may have it over-saturated with oil. Your engine oil may be saturated with gas if the carb leaked down over a period of time. Does the engine oil smell like gas or is it way over full? If so change the oil. Your carb needle and seat assembly (what the float works) may be leaking and need replacing.

Are you sure that the air filter needs to be oiled? Try running it without the oiled filter in it. If that solves some of your problems, might be the answer.
