Picture is a bit small, but that's ok; I get the gist of it. I like the way the headposts look and love how the shape of your newly dug garden mirrors the shape of the headboard(s). I'd say if they are stable in the ground and not in danger of tipping, then I wouldn't bury them deeper. They look great as they are.

I agree with you that their colour is just right. I like white painted metal work, but I also love the rustic look.

I look forward to seeing pictures of your flower bed when it is filled with flowers. What all are you intending to plant?

I like them where they are! If wind knocks them over you might have to sink some rebar in the ground & wire it to the legs!! Like the color too!! Jan

As my DH says --- it's 6 of one - half dozen of the other ..... if you bury them any deeper - they'll look like ordinary trellises ...if you leave them this high - they might tip over. Food for thought .

Really like the shape and design of your headboards! They will look great with the plants....I'm leaning toward burying them a bit more...not all the way to the bottom board, but maybe about six more inches or so. Just my two cents.

I wouldn't bury them if there is a way to make them steady and sturdy without it. Maybe rebar?

They are going to be a nice corner boundary for the new garden, no matter how you install them. Good project! Nice way to recycle too! ~tenderlee

Like them a lot. My first thots were, bury them to the bottom slat. But as I read on and looked back, I certainly agree to either go just a little deeper only, or stablize them so they will stay upright. I also envy anyone who has the room to garden in this way. It's hard to want to go for the gusto and be restricted being a renter.

Don't forget your plants. When you get the garden filled up with plants you won't see the gap anymore. Fully grown plants will hide the headboard if it is buried deeper. Just anchor it with some stakes.

Thank you for all the advise from everyone. I will get them staked down and leave them as is. We are the talk of the block now! My street is only one block long so we know everyone who lives here. No one has ever put anything like this in their yard. A couple of the neighbors look at it as 'strange' but all the others think it looks great. I wonder what they will say when I finally get to make a glass totem for the bed. Probably have a heart attack. lol

If it were me and I felt that the headboards needed stabilizing, this is what I'd do. First I'd drill holes through the legs and, with sturdy wire, attach some sort of steel or strong aluminum anchor to each leg. Next I'd dig 8' diameter holes for each leg with a post hole digger, then place the headboard legs in, and fill with quikcrete. That should hold them for the long run! It is the formula I use for all garden ornaments and fences that I want to stay put!

Since the pieces are identicle I would have attached them at the corner creating a closed corner. I also agree with the use of post holes and quickcrete. To me they would look better sunk half way down thus repurposing a bed to look like a wooden corner fence. A sign with brass house address numbers would be an excellent addition on one side. The other side could have your last name done in brass letters on a sign. Both signs should face the street. This would cause the corner fence to have two purposes, 1. A corner border to the garden and 2. a marker for your house numbers.

They do make a cool fence and I like the color the way they are although white would probably be equally as nice. But if you like things more rustic like I do, I can see why you wouldn't paint them. I agree with roseboo that the flowers will fill in the gaps and you will like for the top of the head/footboard to be seen above them. I really like the fan design of the head/footboards. I would probably get two of those fence stakes for each head/footboard. They are about 4' high and can be pounded into the ground right next to each end and the head/footboard wired to them.

piper...looks like a good start to a place for a great garden! If they were mine, I'd bury them a bit deeper ... I like the color...very rustic...like susierose's ideas also...adding your house number somewhere & name..would be cool.

But, remember, whatever looks GOOD to you is what COUNTS! So, go for it! Great project! TFS! Jeanne S.

Thank you all. I think I will bury them just a little deeper, butt the corners together and stake. I'm not going to use quikcrete because I do not want the permenmently stuck in the ground. I change my mind to often---lol

Great idea!!! When your flowers fill in, the 'white' color might 'pop' or show up better against the plants. You can join the two headboards at one corner with 'L' brackets at the top & bottom to hold them together. Then you can pound a re-bar on the inside of the corner to help keep them in place. I don't blame you, I wouldn't want to cement them in either, cause I change things around just for a new or different look from time to time. Have fun!!!
