I bought these plant stakes

These are #10 galvanized wire, 36 inches long. This one I've bent into a shepherd's hook. {{gwi:177938}}From Garden Poem

I want to use the straight ones for my teacup feeders. I'm thinking about glueing something to the bottom of the saucer, like a small tube, that I can slip the end of the wire into. Or maybe like a washer with a tube in the middle of it. Any ideas? Maybe I need to go to the hardware store and just look around.

Yep, I love to go to the hardware store and just look around. They have the solution to a lot of those technical problems:)

I've seen some nice teacup feeders on here, but I don't know how they get them to stay on the end of the stick. Someone will.

For those of us not familiar with bending #10 wire- how did you bend it so it looks so good? Is that how it comes, in 36" lengths?

Hi, What is the diameter of the stakes? In the plumbing section of the hardware stores you can find end caps made from several different plastics & metals. My GF used 1/2" copper pipe with 1/2" end caps glued to the bottom of the saucers. Then the pipe just slips into the end cap to display them or put them in your yard. They were easy to take to shows that way too. Just push them on the pipe & stick them in the ground.
Where did you buy the plant stakes? How much were they? Those would work good for my wire angels. Right now I am using bamboo plant stakes. Good luck! :)

Onion plants can take a fair amount of abuse and still perk up once you put them in the ground. If the brown is just a leaf dying back, they are still fine. If you're talking soft, stinky brown rot spots in the main tissue then they probably should be composted. And yes, if space is an issue interplanting the beets near the tomatoes is one of the ways to work it out nicely. You will likely pull the beets before the tomatoes are big enough to need the space the beets are in. Cheers!

yes.. of course.. there are a multitude of reasons ... but you dont do it for the heck of it ... as to winter ice .... as snow is usually irrelevant on a deciduous tree ... i have had more snap at my poor attempt at staking.. as compared to bowing over.. and springing back up.. once the ice fell off ... but again ... my soil didnt make it falling over an issue ... and.. in my z5 MI .;. the ground freezes solid... so it isnt going to fall over.. it would more likely break ... my biggest problem.. was usually the second year ... thin wispy trunk .. and the thing leafs out and grow a foot or two .. w/o ever any fert ... and the sailboat sail of leave mass... overwhelms the thin trunk ... and a couple broke at the stake connection ... as i guessed wrong about the placement of such ... i didnt allow the wood to flex .. like a bow ... i created a static point ... such was rejected ... and that is when i learned.. that when dealing with a thin trunk .... you drive a stake as close to the plant.. and splint it to the trunk to make it stronger .... that i learned not to go for instant gratification..and started buying smaller ... so the trunk would grow in sync with the canopy .... and lo and behold.. found out.. that a smaller transplant will usually outgrow the larger instant gratification plant... go figure ... ken

Agree with Serge. A "cocktail" tree is commonly a tree that has one rootstock with more than one cultivar scion grafted to it . Not two separate plants planted in one pot . Two citrus trees in one pot is not a good idea. One almost certainly will crowd out the other, and the weaker one will die. Not sure what grower would do this and market it as a "cocktail" citrus tree, as it isn't. It is two trees stuck in one pot. I would be rather wary of this source for purchasing citrus. Patty S.

One stake per plant has more than enough support problems all on its own without trying to use it for two plants. Stakes are the least effective way to support plants to begin with and when used at least 2x2" stakes are recommended as the 1" ones easily break over from the weight of the plant. So instead consider the Florida Weave method Linda recommended or plan on at least 3 of the 1" stakes spaced around each plant and lots of string. Dvae

To bend the wire, I used needlenose pliers. It's pretty stiff wire and am going to try heating it to see if it bends easier. It's about 1/8 inch in diameter.
The wire, I purchased online from OFE International. It comes in different gauges and lengths. I'm glad I didn't get the number 9. You can buy packages of 20 or 100.

I bought 100 stakes because I have lots of plans for it. With shipping, it was around $40.00. Forty cents a piece--or less, if I cut some of them in half.
